What type of party is it (nighttime cocktail party, seated dinner, etc.)? DH's is DURING THE DAY so I probably won't be going...

I hate you.
db...he doesn't care per se as long as I don't embarras him. My goals are a touch more lofty...
I was thinking black pencil with a deep teal or magenta colored shiny button up...
but I am thinking that might be too 
I am going for WILF...but milk and cookies WILF more than chips dips chains and wips WILF..kwim?
ETA: I am constrained by the fact that this party is right after work, and his entire firm basically goes in their work clothes...only the wives of the partners get a smidge more dressy...but they are WAY older and far less slutty than I am

DH's Christmas party is as you describe your DH's. I didn't go last year (b/c DS was a newborn) but the year b/f I wore a black shirt dress type of dress - tied in the back and heels and there were only two other significant others in dresses - everyone wore black pants and sweaters or shirts or work clothes. This year I plan on wearing a black sweater dress and knee boots or heels with black tights.

very nice...but I'd have to ask my dh about the sexy quotient....it's high!.
haha. I asked my DH and he said it's perfect plus I don't think I 'll be posing at the party the way that girl does in the pic and I def won't be wearing shoes like that,LOL(plus the dress is not as short on me, since her legs start from her neck), . The dress on me is sexyand cute , but not provocative .

Well after that there isn't much to add I'll be buying a nice wrap dress and some cute shoes for our party on Wednesday night. I need a versatile dress that can be worn for Multiple occasions and jewelry and shoes can make it more formal or casual along with my hair and make-up.

so I picked up a grey silk dupioni full skirt and white button down blouse from ATL (I can't get the pic but here's a link in case you can see it )
I still want to find a sweater to go over the blouse...preferably in eggplant or teal.
wearing black round-toe pumps and thigh highs with the line in the back...just to keep things interesting  
ETA: dediko...I'd still like to know where you got that dress

Funny story about that dress is that I bought it in forever 21 few weeks ago and it was the first time I went to that store:)
I got the pic I posted above from ebay and I am wondering if she sold the dress,LOL.
Actually I just found another dress in my closet , red silk dress that I bought at Bebe last year and never wore it. So now I can't decide which one to wear to the party . It's funny after having DD and becoming a SAHM I have no idea what's in my "going out " closet any more.
