Boy name question...

So, DH and I had the TOUGHEST time agreeing on a boy name.

We finally agreed on the name Jake.

My question is... would you assume that the name Jake is short for Jacob?

Although, I did have a friend Jacob in HS, we called him Jake once in awhile- but mostly it was Jacob.

Re: Boy name question...

I wouldn't automatically associate them. I LOVE the name Jake, but we have a cat named Jake, so I can't use it Chat Icon

No - Jake is Jake.

Like, Jack, is now Jack - People rarely name their kid John to call him Jack, they just name him Jack - KWIM?

Re: Boy name question...

i am definitely in the minority - i would assume that jake is short for jakob, but i think that's because i love the name jakob (it was my second choice) and would use the nickname jake.

Yes - we're going with jacob and i know full well i'll be the ONLY one to call him jacob - Dave likes Jake better....but it's fine with me to use the slang term!

Re: Boy name question...

i wouldn't, but i think many people would. my DH is gregg--just gregg--and i cannot tell you HOW many people say/write gregory, and it really bothers him.

No I think Jake is great on it's own. I like it better than Jacob also.
