Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

Anyone been there yet this week? I know their grand opening was yesterday, was it crazy busy? DH's family is going tonight and invited us.........I just know we've waited hours for a seat at the one in Bayshore and I am almost 36 weeks preggers.......don't know if I can stand that long of a wait. TIA!

Drove by around 8 or so last night and I noticed a ton of people standing inside. I'm sure not all of them were at the bar. I'm waiting a bit before I try them out. I'm hoping the Bay Shore one will be less crowded though.

Does anyone know if it's bigger than the Bay Shore location? Bay Shore always has a wait because it's fairly small.

Re: Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

It's supposed to be a lot bigger inside according to my friend who ate at the original one a few weeks ago, and asked them. I think they said something like 10-12 more tables and an expanded bar area.

DH is not really wanting to go since he's been stringing lights all day so we may end up waiting too!

We went there tonight, but didn't wait.

It is much bigger than the one in Bayshore, but the wait is also much bigger. We got there at 10PM, I stood in line at the hostess stand while 4 hostesses flirted with a group of guys and didnt even acknowledg my existance. After standing there for 5 minutes, one of the guys turned around and said to me "The wait is at least an hour and a half, that is what they told us." So if the wait is 1.5 hours at 10PM, forget about it.

I also heard the hostesses telling the guys that if they give her 100 dollars she'll seat them next. Chat Icon

Re: Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

Well, we did end up going. Waited for about 2 hours for a party of 8 of us. I give them that it's their first weekend so problems to be expected, but they definitely have A LOT of room left to improve.........DH noticed a lot of the staff being rude to the customers, and the floors........COVERED with grease everywhere. It was a lawsuit waiting to happen. They are going to have to fix that issue, and fix it fast. My SIL and I are both preggers and no one would let us get up and walk alone in there because it was so dangerous with the grease. Plus, the fire alarm kept going off so the fire dept was there the whole night.

Re: Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

We went to the one in Bayshore on Friday and waited about 45 minutes at 8pm. Not too bad!

We were originally going to go to the Massapequa one, but my father thought there would be issues with the wait and the service since it was opening night.

I'm glad we listened.

I don't see it ever settling down in terms of a wait for under an hour. (This is based on my experience with the one in Bay Shore). I personally would not bring a baby or a very young child there. It's very crowded, loud, bar atmosphere to wait in.

Re: Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

We ordered take out from there tonight. Talk about ridiculous. We ordered the food at 6:45, and the website said it would be ready at 7:15. The restaurant called a few minutes after we placed our order, and told us it would be ready around 7:30-7:45. So we drove there, and DH went in at 7:45.

AN HOUR went by!!!!! DH came out of the restaurant with our food at 8:45!!!!!!!!!!! I was getting nervous that something happened to him- because I didn't have my cell phone on me, and the baby fell asleep in the car.

IMO, the food wasn't even worth it!

Re: Smokin' Al's in Massapequa

Wow, there's a long wait for take-out too? That's crazy!

Another thing for the mom that asked: the bar area consists of very high stools. There really is no where to sit otherwise. My pregnant SIL and my pregnant self waited upwards over a half hour before a table cleared in the bar area and we could sit, and wait uncomfortably, for a table in the main dining room. Yeah----again, not a good idea to bring kids there IMO.
