Flying while pregnant

I just found out I'm pregnant again and am supposed to fly to Florida in two weeks. Does anyone know anything about flying in your first trimester. I've searched the internet for info and have found different opinions on the topic. Some say there is a link between miscarriage and flying in your first trimester. But most say that it is safe and just to walk around and drink a lot of water.

I would appreciate any info you have or past experiences. Thanks!

Great question! I do not have answer but am hoping to be in the same predicament when I travel over the Christmas holiday. I will be anxiously awaiting the response.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

Totally fine. I did it while PG with both my boys. Drink lots of water and get up and walk at least once an hour.

Re: Flying while pregnant

I flew to Costa Rica not knowing I was pregnant. Then I flew to Florida 2 weeks after finding out I was pregnant (at 6 weeks).

The doctor told me that they recommend you not fly in the first trimester because of risk of miscarriage. Flying doesn't increase your chances of miscarriage. It's just that you would want to be in the comforts of home if unfortunately it did happen.

You will be fine. Chat Icon

I was 19 weeks pregnant when we went away and everything was fine. Sorry I can't be of more assistance since I know your question was about flying in the 1st trimester.

I flew from the west coast to the east coast about two weeks ago, I was 10 weeks pregnant, and as far as I know everything is fine. Like others have said, just make sure you get up and walk around every once in a while and drink lots of water.

Re: Flying while pregnant

Airlines have their own flight restrictions for pregnant women, which can vary according to whether you are flying domestically or internationally and which airline you will be flying. Some airlines won’t allow you to travel for 30 days before your due date, while others won’t let you on board if your due date is less than seven days away.

Flying in the beginning is safe. However, during the first trimester, the main concern over flying is making your pregnancy symptoms, like morning sickness, worse.

Re: Flying while pregnant

I flew when pg with DD three times in the first trimester, twice in the 2nd trimester, and once in the 3rd. It was fine. I actually got preferrential treatment without even asking(early boarding on Southwest.) I felt fine all times. I was a little uncomfortable on the one during the 3rd trimester. I agree about the drinking lots of water. My flights were pretty short 2-3 hours, so I didn't walk around much, but everything was fine. I've heard that about the 1st trimester thing too, but I didn't know I was 6 weeks pg for my first plane trip. DD is perfectly healthy. I also asked my doctor about going through the security check-point and he said it was fine, but you can ask to be checked seperately if you feel more comfortable. Chat Icon

Re: Flying while pregnant

I flew to CA at 9-10 weeks pregnant. I was more prone to motion sickness, but other than that I was ok. Just drink plenty of water and try to walk around every hour or so.
