Odd question...
Let's say that we had to do IVF and they ending up retrieving a lot of eggs.
Can you donate some of those eggs?? Or is egg donation a totally separate thing from your own treatment?

For the success of your cycle, they will try to fertilize all the eggs, so they can determine exactly which ones are the best to put back in you.
You do, however, have an option of donating your EMBRYOS, which we planned on doing if this cycle works, and we decide not to have any more children.

Actually Dr. Stelling and I were talking about this last night. There is some new PGD techonology which will be ready in Jan 2009 that tests all 24 chromosomes, not just 12 and not with FISH, with some other kind of technology, which was a bit over my head. Some patients are donating their frozen embryos for research for this technology.

DH and I have to fill out a paper that tells what we want to do with any remaining embryos should we choose not to have more children
I think the options are to donate them to an infertile couple, to donate them to science research or to destroy them.
I think egg donation is a completely separate thing.
