bassinet vs pack n play or both w/ poll

For those of you planning on keeping the baby in room with you for the first few month...will you be using a bassinet in your room or the pack n play as a bassinet? I'm trying to see if I should buy both or just head for the pack n play for longer use. Thanks for all of your input!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have both but only because I inherited bothChat Icon the PNP is good for travel which a bassinet won't be unless you get a travel one so if you have to choose i would go with PNP

i registered for a pack n play, but being that our apartment, although it is 2bdrm, is not that large - i realized we really dont need it

We're using both, we're keeping the bassinet in our room and the pack n play in the living room, in case we're all sitting down there and I put her down for a nap instead of not having her there with us...

Re: bassinet vs pack n play or both w/ poll

I have a family bassinet that has been around for ages so DS was in our room in that for almost 3 months..

I also actually have two pack and plays. The mini one is in my room now - we put DS in it when he wakes up at 5:30 to play with his toys.

We maybe used the other one two times in the 16 months he's been born. I know people say it's good to bring to people's homes - but I've never done that - too much of a hassle. It has been sitting in my living room now - and it basically just holds lots of crap. I've been meaning to close it up forever.

Re: bassinet vs pack n play or both w/ poll

For us they served different purposes.

I used the bassinet on my side of the bed because it's a narrow space (too small for a PNP) and I was BFing. I was against it. But after a c-section and BFing every 2 hours at night, it turned to be a savior. I used it for 2.5 month.

I used the PNP with the bassinet attachment in our LR. I have 2 small dogs and I needed DS safe from them. They would have kissed him to death.

Once he was too old for the bassinet attachment of the PNP, I removed it and used the PNP for well over a year after that. I also used the PNP when DS was 14 months as a travel bed when we went away on vacation.

we got a cradle for our bedroom and a pnp for downstairs, with the plan to have the baby sleep in our room at night.

didn't work out that way - for the first 3 months dh and i took each night in shifts, and the one with the baby stayed downstairs. so the pnp got tons of use.

after the 3 month point ds started sleeping in his crib. so basically we never used the cradle.

I registered for both. I figured the bassinet would be for our bedroom, because it is smaller and the pack and play will be for the living room and when we travel.
