bathing and changing items: which brands?

What brands of changing and bathing items are you going to buy for the baby? I've got diapers and wipes, but no other changing supplies yet. I also have no idea whether to use any products for bathing. I'm so clueless. Chat Icon

I know most OTC medications can't be given until the baby is at least 6 months old. Are you going to have anything in the house before the baby is born? If so, what?

Changing- Definately get a tube of Triple Paste- works when nothing else did for my DD
Sensitive wipes- many docs recommend just using a washcloth in the beginning but we used the sensitive wipes by week two and she was fine.
Bathing- there are many organic brands out there but we have always used either Target brand Baby Wash or some other store brand once our fancy shower presents ran out and the baby was fine. All over baby wash is all you need in the beginning- then just baby shampoo later on. Now that DD is a toddler, we use Suave since they have a no-tear cholrine remover shampoo since she is in swimming lessons.
Meds- you should have infant Tylenol on hand- they can take that in the beginning if the ped recommends after 6 weeks. After 6 months, you can start using infant motrin.

For OTC drugs to have on hand, I would get Mylicon drops, Infant Tylenol and Saline drops.

I got the Johnson and Johnson package that comes with all the bathing products and Desitin. Love the smell of that J&J stuff.

It's handy too 'cus it comes with a plastic compartment.

I also got Butt Paste for diaper rashes, heard that it's the best stuff. :D

i used the sensitive wipes from the beginning and they were fine.

DEFINITELY invest in diaper cream. lots of moms swear by triple paste. i use boudreaux butt paste and it works like a charm. sometimes, though, just vaseline is enough, so i would get some of that too.

i initially used j&j bath products (smelled so yummy!!) but ds developed mild excema so now we use a baby wash by mustela that is especially for sensitive skin.

i would have some tylenol and some mylecon on hand. you don't need motrin or benadryl for several months.
