How many?

How many homes did you look at and how long did it take you to find yours?

We'll been looking for about 3 weeks and fell in love with a house that is completely brand new, from floors to ceiling, but maybe we're jumping the gun... Chat Icon

Re: How many?

we semi-looked in April and saw about 8 homes, then we seriously looked in August and September and saw about 30 more places. When we found our home - we knew, stopped looking, and made an offer.

Had we not been under the time pressure we were in - moved for a job to a new state and had a mortgage lock in that was going to expire at a fantasic rate - I would have taken some more time and would have tried to purchase something now - in the December January February time frame. But DH had to be in his new job by December 15th so we needed to have something by November.

If I did not HAVE TO MOVE imminently I would honestly wait for about a year. I think the prices will go down, but keep in mind the interest rates will likely rise, so your home may cost you more b/c of the interest rate and refinancing will cost you $ and that is assuming you will be able to get a better rate later.

Re: How many?

We started about 3 weeks ago and made an offer on a house today....we don't know if its been accepted yet, however, I feel nervous that we are going into it too quickly.

The way we see it is in our price range and the houses that we've seen and will still look at, we will not find anything that needs 0 work, has low taxes, good size property and is literally brand spankin new.

I'm just trying to put my nerves at ease, this whole process is a bit stressful and intense..this is a lot of money to risk making a mistake!

Re: How many?

We started full on looking in January of 2005 (we did some open houses in May of 2004 but stopped in August...we got married in September and then the holiday's).

We've looked at 145 house and have made offers on 8. We're *still* looking... Chat Icon BUT, we're picky...and only looking in certain areas.

If you feel this house is THE house, don't worry about "jumping the gun". Just go for it.

Re: How many?

We looked at 4, I think. But we wouldn't go to see anything that didn't fit some very strict criteria, so we ruled a lot out immediately.

Re: How many?

Three. We had a very long list of "must haves" as we already had our starter house and this would be our upgrade. I looked at a lot on-line but most disn't have what I wanted.

BTW, my house was a disaster. Seriously, several of my friends who are in real estate said, "OMG, you bought that house... it's needs EVERYTHING". It did but I wanted a diamond in the rough and have a lesser mortgage than finance a house in great condition or newer construction and pay higher taxes.

Thanks everyone I feel better now that everyone has had longer as well as shorter time frames and different amounts of time, we love the house, and realize if we don't get it - it wasn't meant to be, but if we do, we didn't jump in too quickly. Chat Icon

Yeah that's awesome- Good luck!!!!! Chat Icon

We went with our realtor to see about 25 or so houses. We also drove past probably another 30 (based on the MLSLI maps) just to check them out before even wasting our time going with the realtor. We were anxious and started looking before we were ready to place a bid, so those weren't all houses we were serious about buying. IMO I don't think it really matters how many you see - if you fall in love with a house and it has e/t you are looking for, and you feel good about it, then go for it! Chat Icon

we were on our 4th day out (weekends only) within only one month - and saw less than 25 places and found something we LOVE... lets see if it goes through, we might be putting in a bid next week... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
