Cooper's not eating.

Coop has always had stomach issues so we've never been able to feed him regular run-of-the-mill dog food. Right now, he's eating I.D. Diet (we can only get it at the vet... it's so Chat Icon). This is something he's been eating for years (we did take a break for about a year when he went on Holistic Select, but that ended when him pooping liquid started Chat Icon).

So for about the past 2 weeks, he hasn't been eating, esp. dinner. He's pooping normally, his playing and acting like his old self, but the eating it just really starting to concern us.

Any ideas of what we could or should do (aside from calling the vet, which is our next step if we can't figure something out).

Thanks!

That's really weird that you wrote this, Ollie wasn't eating over the weekend either. I told DH that if she wasn't eating by today I'd call the vet but she was fine this morning. Sorry I have no suggestions. Maybe entice him by mixing a food he really likes in with his dog food? I know ollie would do just about anything for boiled chicken.

Thanks Jess. I thought about the boiled chicken, so maybe we'll do that. It's esp. wierd bc Cooper is such a food driven dog.

I am sorry to hear that! It is probably nothing, but call the vet just to be safe.

Brutus is a very emotional dog and anything can stop him from eating. Sometimes he will even vomit mucus because he hasn't eaten in so long. He won't eat for over fifteen hours if DH goes to work without him.

But the minute DH gets home, he eats and then is running around as crazy as ever!

Re: Cooper's not eating.

Could it be he is bored of his food? Brody did that a few times, he would just looka t the food and walk aweay and lie down, and I would panic. I bought this Iams sauce that you pour on the food and he would eat it. He eats fine now, it was a phase he went through, but I figured Id throw it out there!

Re: Cooper's not eating.

No real updates. He ate like a good boy last night but didn't finish. We've been giving him a supplement called Nutra-Cal to offset any nutrients he's not getting by being a picky eater.

We've tried those Iams sauces before, but they didn't really agree with his stomach.

Hopefully he'll come around by the weekend otherwise he'll be making a visit to the vet.

Thanks!! Chat Icon

Re: Cooper's not eating.

can u maybe exercise him more than normal, like set up a play date or something. that always makes my dog eat like a maniac b/c he uses up so much energy. try adding some gravy or olive oil or broth or something he likes to his food as well. my dog gets bored and i need to spice it up sometimes.
