Steak in the city?

Can anyone suggest a good place for steak in the city? DH and I are going to the Met on Thursday and would like to have a steak dinner. I am open with any location within Manhattan.

TIA!

Re: Steak in the city?

Bobby Van's is good.
DH and I love the Palm (but for some reason the 2nd Ave location is much better than the West side) it's not 'fancy' at all though

Sparks is awesome
and Morton's is our fave.

I'd skip Smith and Wolensky's - totally overrated IMO and the few times I've been there my steak was disgusting. -

What's the other one? Dominco's ??
Something like that - I can't remember the exact name but that's really good too !

Re: Steak in the city?

Thank you so far. I can't see a menu for Bobby Van's. Morton's looks nice, but no prices. Chat Icon

We don't want to go all out, but I know that is difficult with steakhouses. SO what are price ranges and dress codes of these places? I would like to wear nice jeans, a nice top and nice shoes, so sort of dressy casual.

Les Halles was casual and had great food. Best steak I've ever had. We went to the one on Park Avenue.

I second Quality Meats - Great creative comfort Food.

Kobe Club is across the street and very good.

DelFriscos - get the lemon cake for dessert.....

Old Homestead

And my fovorite is Mortons ..... can't get enough of it there. I love it.

Mortons can be pricey, but they usually have some stuff you can share with then get a couple of sides. Of course, most nice steak places in the city are gonna be pricey then you add drinks it goes up even more. Not sure of the dress code b/c I've always gone after work so most people are dressed up already. The Palms is really nice too and very casual, but another place that if you go to after work you'll see a lot of suits

Delfriscos - we went in neat jeans and dress shirt after coming from a show.

I dont think there are prices on their site either, but a steak is about 40ish, sides about 10....

I agree.
Ben Benson's is my absolute FAVORITE... it's (I think) an overlooked steak place- but that is my #1 choice (and I've eaten at a few of them)
get the porterhouse for two and two sides.. that's your best bet.

BLT Steak

I like this one. I booked it because they had a horseradish sauce, which is my fav. I almost booked Morton's or Old Homestead, but when I saw that horseradish sauce I had to go there.

Thanks everyone for your help! Will let you know how it is!

ITA. The steak there is terrible.

I also think Morton's is highly overrated, though it's better than the one on Long Island.

I love Del Friscos.

And, actually, don't laugh, but the Ruth's Chris in the city is fantastic. It's a LOT better than the one on LI. My ILs give us gift cards there all the time (not sure why...) and we've always had great experiences.

I also think the Palm is great, too.

Re: Steak in the city?

I went to BLT and it was fabulous! I highly recommend it. The meat was tender and the portion size was just right. I especially loved the sauces that came with the meat. The atmosphere was great as well.

If you haven't been, definitely try it!
