Onesies....

I have lots of onesies, but none that are short so that they don't touch the umbilical cord. Is it necessary to use those in the beginning?

Re: Onesies....

Are you talking about the ones that button between the legs or the side snap shirts? I am going to use the side snap shirts until her cord stump falls off

No. I never had the side snap shirts or the onesies with the hole by the cord stump. TOTALLY not necessary!

one of my friends said that for the newborns and very young ones, side snap shirts worked much better than onesies.

Re: Onesies....

I just used regular crotch snap onsies for DD. It was fine and didn't irritate her cord at all.

I really think the whole "special clothing" and diapers for cord care is totally a marketing scheme.

Agreed, I know it was not necessary for DS, they just tell you to be careful of the diaper in the begining.

I prefer the side snap shirts but they aren't a necessity. I just like them for at home because I just hate onesies.

Re: Onesies....

I didn't like the shirts my friend used. They always seemed to ride up. I used regular onsies and hers didn't fall off until she was almost 3 weeks old!

I don't think it matters , but I will say the side snap ones are easier to put on a NB , I was so scared pulling the shirts over DS 's head, I used the side snap ones for a few weeks till I felt more comfy with him.

Re: Onesies....

I asked at Lamaze and they said as long as the onesie is a lttle loose that you don't need the short ones, a regular one will do!

Re: Onesies....

I believe they are called "Lap shoulder t-shirts"..from what I remember...I don't think it is necessary...you could buy a couple if you like..but the onesies will not interfere with the cord...

Re: Onesies....

Kaydyn lived in onesies the first 3 months of her life. They did not interfere with the umbilical cord at all. If it would make you feel better to get them, then pick up a few, but they are not necessary in terms of the umbilical cord.

Re: Onesies....

DD was in a tshirt in the NICU and then in onesies after she came home and there wasn't a problem. Her umbilical cord fell off a few days after she came home from the hospital.
