What do I say to MIL

I just finished up my registry, and my DH tells me that his mom bought us a bedding set...now although i think it was so sweet she thought of us, she did not ask us if we already registered for one, and I love the set I registered for....I feel like bedding is so personal, i was kind of annoyed, and it is totally not my style, I kind of told Dh that I am keeping my other set on the registry, I am thinking I should not bring it up that I dont like it and just say "oh we will use both" what do you think????

Re: What do I say to MIL

Maybe you could just say that to your MIL. Tell her that you really are touched that she would buy the bedding set for you, but you "had your heart set" on the one you registered for. Hopefully she understands. GL

Good idea. Were you going for a theme? You could also tell her that you had already selected one that you thought would go perfectly with the theme.

I agree-- and say that you planned the whole nursery around the bedding you selected.

In all reality, she probably bought it because she thought it was cute. But, picking out the bedding is like the most major decor item in a nursery. You and your DH should be doing that.... it's like her buying you your wedding dress without consulting you, in a weird, totally reaching, kind of way.

WHAT? She bought you bedding just out of the blue that you didn't register for? That is weird!

I would have V tell her nicely that you guys have a theme and picked out a specific bedding, that it's on your registry and she can buy that one for you. Chat Icon

Re: What do I say to MIL

Am I being ignorant in thinking that you will need more than one set of bedding?

Could you get the bedding set you want and then use the set your MIL got you as a backup for when you do laundry?

The only part we ended up using from our bedding set was the sheet... and always need more sheets.

Re: What do I say to MIL

You will never need a full bedding backup -- just lots and lots of sheets.

I spent a ton of money on my bedding. We don't use the bumpers anymore. The crib is so low that I took out the bedskirt. The quilt is draped over my glider where I sit on it Chat Icon

Re: What do I say to MIL

to be honest I would say thank you and keep it... Even though you may have a theme, as I did with DS other bedding I received that I did not register for came in very handy.... If you only have one bedding set trust me you will be doing laundry like everyday... Just something to think about

I don't think that is a far reach at all. I get the similarities. And yes, I agree that it is too personal for her to just buy some random bedding for you. Sweet and generous, but a little over the top.
