Spinoff off to the No-No Cheeses?
Does anybody know if we can eat unpasteurized feta if it is cooked like in spinach pie?
I really really want some spinach pie, but I won't eat it unless I know it's safe.

I cant say for sure.. but i dont really look into my cooked foods, so im sure i have eaten foods not pasterized but cooked.. Call your OB and ask.

I'm pretty sure as long as it's cooked it's okay. However, it would be very hard to find cheese that is unpasturized here in the US.
ETA: It's the same with cold cuts. They say it's okay to have as long as it's heated through to kill any bacteria that may be lingering there

Trader Joe's carries a "loaf" of spinach pie. It's made by a company called Taverna. REALLY good. BJs used to carry it, and it came in packs of 2 for $6.99 (!!!) but they stopped, and now I have to pay $5 each, but it's still worth it.

I would say it's fine. I had cheese fondue that had unpasturized cheese and I didn't worry since it was cooked.

pasteurization is just pre-cooking the milk... so I presume it's ok if it's unpastuerized but thoroughly cooked....
it is true, though, that unpasteurized feta is hard to find in the US. you would have to go to either an ethnic store, or a gourmet shop... so likely it is pasteurized....
