My friend will not listen to me about puppy mills
its so frustrating. About a year ago, they bought a dog at a pet store. I started telling him about puppy mills and he just didnt want to hear it, like wasn't even interested. I have sent him an email on the subject also and he never responded.
A few days ago, they got a second dog from a pet store. again , i brought up the puppy mills and he just didnt want to hear it.
Its so weird. Wouldnt he be the slightest bit interested in this topic since he is a dog person? I dont understand. Anyway, the damage is already done.
I wasnt being rude abuot it either This is a friend of mine for 10 yrs so I am comfortable bringing it up/

That IS frustrating.
I have a friend kinda like that, too. She completely supports the fact that we took in a pregnant stray cat, gave her a safe place to have her kittens, and then got her spayed so it won't happen again...yet she won't spay and neuter her own outdoor cats!!!

Re: My friend will not listen to me about puppy mills
Sadly, there is nothing more you can do.
I mentioned a little while back that DH has a friend who was looking for a boxer. I did a ton of research and gave him a page with breeders in the NY area, highly recommended breeders and information on petstores/puppy mills. He then spent the next few months asking me questions on and off. Each time I stressed why he should buy from a breeder and not a pet store. A few weeks ago, DH comes home and says to me "How are the puppies from ShakeAPaw?" I start to go into a litany of the issues and he cuts me off by saying "That's too bad, "Joe" just got a boxer there."
Months........months.....and then they went to a petstore for instant gratification.

Maybe it is a concern of his too but he would rather ignore the subject. I totally understand though. My brother has bought 3 dogs and had to deal with soo many issues with the dogs. One of them had to be put to sleep. Puppy Mills are serious and sometimes easier to ignore.

My aunt is the same way. She bought not one, but two dogs from a pet store after I tried to inform her. She just wouldn't listen or isn't paying attention.

Re: My friend will not listen to me about puppy mills
You should have them watch the episode of Oprah about puppy mills. When i was in school (i took the boces vet asst program) we watched that and the whole room was in tears. If that dont get thru to the person nothing will.

Re: My friend will not listen to me about puppy mills
i have found the same thing. DH's coworker wanted advice on buying a dog. i wrote a whole big thing on how to adopt from a rescue group or shelter, how to find a good breeder and how horrible puppy mills are, how buying from pet stores is supporting the puppy mills. what does she do? she buys a puppy from texas, from a "breeder" she found online, and then wondered why the breeder charged her thousands for a wheaten, wanted the money up front and would not return her calls when she had questions once she received the pup, who ended up having some behavioral issues.
i've discovered there are people who love dogs because they are cute, but are not dog lovers in the sense that they care about the dogs' well being. there are also people who only "love" dogs if it doesn't inconvenience them. it's so frustrating
