Very common--it's rare to be able to see anything before 12 weeks with an external ultrasound Chat Icon

Re: Transvaginal U/S--is this the norm??

I had one when I was 6 weeks. Dr said you can see things that way that you might not otherwise see with a reg sono. It doesn't hurt at all, its a little uncomfy...... but when you get there and see what they use to do it, you'll know what I mean Chat Icon As soon as you see that little picture on the screen though, you'll forget what they are doing. Good luck!

As some of you may have read in my first post, I just found out that I'm pregnant on Monday, and my doctor wants me to go for a transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow to see how far along I am and make sure everything is going well.
I'm just wondering if this is the norm when you first find out that you're pregnant? It seems so invasive. Not that I'm complaining cause I'm more than happy to listen to my doctors advice. Just wondering how many other women have gone through this and what exactly I should expect...I'm so new to all of this.
TIA! Chat Icon

This is totally the norm. I had them up until around 13 weeks.

Trust me, by the time you're done with this pregnancy, the word "invasive" won't even enter your mind!

Totally normal. The baby isn't developed enough for them to see it with a regular u/s. I had transvaginal u/s until I was 9 weeks along. Once my RE released me to my OB at that time I started getting regular u/s.

Very common, its not that bad at all and I hate the trips to the Gyno even before becoming preggo. Just relax when they do it because they get a really good view of the baby.
