anyone elses dog a nipper???

Maerick is a nipper. We him in training classes and we got once a week. But if you touch his butt he turns to nip which is starting to become biting!

We took him for his 1st grooming and he was good but he was nippy and the groomer says it is turing into biting.

I sao bite LOUD. I have rapped him on his nose with my 2 fingers if he goes to bit (No i dont hit him BAD) He also is on an electonic collar.

He is 7 months old is this still a puppy thing? Or is this an excuse I am making for him. If I go huuuuuuuuuuuh (breathing in) he stops and knows it is wrong

I constantly grab his paws and his butt to get him used to it

Anyone else having these issues? The trainer is helping us out and he is better but I feel like I have a "bad boy".

The vet said wow he turns to bite if you touch his butt and I all i thought was well if everytime he goes to the vet u shove a thermometer in his @$$ I'd bit u too.

UGH can anyone sympathize?

Murray is only 4 months but a big time nipper. What I have found is working is that when he nips, I shriek a really high pitched OUCH. Sort of like how the dogs yelp when they are wrestling and actually start hurting each other.

It seems to be working. HE still likes to chew on fingers, but he doesnt put any pressure on with his teeth now. ITs like a gentler nip.

ollie is 7 months old and an avid nipper. It is so frustrating we don't know what to do anymore. I've been told she'll grow out of it and I'm hoping they're right

Brinkley usually only nips when he's excited. I do the Cesar Milan SHHHHT sound when he does it. I try to get him to calm down before I pet him/show him affection.

I also pet his hindquarters gently while speaking softly to get him used to it being a good thing.

Maybe while you're doing this, you treat him when he doesn't react by nipping?

Does he nip other times or only when you touch his hind end? Could he have some pain in his hind end?

Re: anyone elses dog a nipper???

Our rottie was a nipper when he was a pup. Mostly when he was teething. In the beginning of his teething stage I let him bite on my fingers, I felt bad for him. That was fine until his jaw got stronger.

To get him out of this habit anytime he nipped or his teeth touched skin we would say OW really loud. If he went to bite we would catch him by holding his tongue down for a second (no pressure at all, this was just annoying for him, kinda hard to explain) and say No Bite very loud. If he was playing with us and a toy and his caught skin we would again say no bite and take away that toy for a bit.

Between those two things he learned not to bite/nip very quickly. Even now when we are playing with out hands with him he may play bite but without touching skin, kind of an open bite (dog mouths are equivalent to our hands). He knows better by now and I love it.
