Just got back....
from the Billy Joel concert. He was simply AMAZING!!! Has anyone else gone yet for this tour? We just had such an awesome time. But unfortunately some Long Beach cop had to be a buzz kill and leave me a parking ticket for parking on the street during a "snow emergency"

This is a case she is doomed to lose. They always declare snow emergencies when we get this much snow.

My DH is a Long Beach fireman and thinks he has a good chance of getting out of the ticket - I think so as well - we've both been to traffic court here and know how the judges operate.

Well i guess it doesn't hurt to fight it. But what defense can you possibly use?
Its not like this blizzard was a huge surprise. It was talked about for days. The snow emergency signs are on every street that you are not allowed to park on (usually major streets).
And snow emergency is declared so all the emergency vechicles can get around. Doesn't sound like something that a judge will want to ignore. Thats similar to parking at a hydrant... parking at a handicapped spot... etc.

Well there is a snow emergency route sign but it doesn't say anything about parking. How was I supposed to know an "emergency" was declared? Ahh it's worth a shot to fight it.

Well maybe you have a case. But when you said "how do you know there was a snow emergency"... i kinda laughed.
Because potential for a foot plus of snow... plus wind gusts of as much as 50mph is usually enough for me to believe snow emergency was activated.

If there was a sign (snow route means snow emergency road)... you can't park there if there is a serious threat of snow. Once they delcare snow emergency... they need all the cars off the road so they can properly plow the street.
You can find out if snow emergency was declared by watching News12... going online... or calling the county office... or maybe calling the office of emergency management (who I guess handles declaring a snow emergency).

Yeah the opening with Storm Front was so appropriate. Right afterwards he was so funny. He goes..."Okay, so we all made it. So what, there's a little snow...big frikkin deal!" It was such an awesome show. One of his roadies performed Highway to Hell....craziness. Where did you find the set list?
And as far as my ticket situation...as soon as I came inside, I checked the Long Beach City website and there was a scrolling message that said "Currently there is no snow emergency" UGH!!!

they were going up and down the block yesterday on Beech street (Long Beach) on the loud speaker making an annoucement that if people didnt move their cars they were getting ticketed and towed. They said this is because it is a snow emergency route...

Oh wow...well I'm on Shore Rd. and it'd be next to impossible for me to hear something coming from the street. I'm on the boardwalk side of the building. This is so annoying. They doubled the fine too! $100!!!!

I'm on Shore Rd too. I was going nuts last night - the cops must have driven down the street 30 time (no exaggeration) blasting "A SNOW EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED. MOVE YOUR CAR OFF THE STREET OR IT WILL BE TOWED"
After about five times it gold old - two hours later I was ready to pull my hair out.
Glad the concert was good and sorry about the ticket.
