My trip to L&D
So... I was probably totally overreacting, but for some reason I am becoming LESS relaxed as this pregnancy moves forward, not better.
I was feeling very "wet" all day, but attributed it to being normal discharge. It was in the back of my mind all day, but I didn't want to call the doctor for something silly, so I just tried to ignore it. I get home after work, eat dinner, everything is fine. I had some ice cream, everything fine. About a half an hour later, I start getting some cramps. Thinking its bathroom related, I try that, but no relief there. Then the pain/cramping starts getting worse and my entire abdomen is tightening, something I have never felt before. Now I am starting to worry. I start to get these pains every 15 minutes or so and they are accompanied by back pain. I call my dr. and try to get through to the on-call service, but I must have had a bad connection, because no one was picking up and I heard a lot of clicking. I should have tried to call again, but instead I make DH take me to the ER. They send me up to L&D.... everything was fine, they did an exam, put on the fetal monitor, and gave me fluids. They said it was probably just an irritable uterus. I still felt like an idiot who overreacted. I have to call my dr. and go in for a follow up today. Am I going to be a crazy overprotective mother? I so don't want to be that kind of mom.
I thought I was drinkiing enough water, but I guess not, since the fluids did seem to help. They did an FFN too, they said the results should be back by the time I see the dr. today.
Stony Brook L&D was great by the way. They were very nice and didn't make me feel silly at all, even though I was embarrassed for panicking over nothing.

You are definitely not the only pregnant women to show up thinking they're in labor. Nothing to be embarassed about! And better safe than sorry!!

I agree with all the others. You went through a lot to get here. Don't ever be embarrassed about taking care of your babies! Think of it this way-when they're here-if one of them had a high fever at night woukld you hesitate to take them to the hospital? I don't think so.

I'm glad everything is ok !!!! Don't ever feel silly for wanting to get medical expertise - You have come TOO far to feel silly about calling your doctor or going to the ER if you think its necessary or not !!!! Always better safe than sorry (and that counts after the babies get here too !!)

Re: My trip to L&D
Thanks everyone! I am so glad to hear that you all would have done the same thing! I followed up at my Dr. today - they checked my cervical length and it was 4.4cm, and the FFN from last night came back neg, so I am definitely not in labor. Seems I was just dehydrated, even though I really thought I was drinking enough! The dr. told me if it happens to again to drink lots and lots of water, wait an hour or two and see how I am feeling then.
They said it was irritable uterus - which I think are actual contractions, not braxton hicks, although I am not really sure what the difference is.
