Can a nurse override a dr?

Just curious... a few weeks ago DH and I met w/ my dr. We discussed doing another stim cycle instead of an FET cycle and went over my reasoning as well as the pros and cons of each.
My nurse had told me that they do FET cycles before stim cycles when using the grant a 2nd time (meaning you pay for the FET cycles completely out of pocket), unless the dr. overrides that and allows me to go straight to another stim cycle.
So when we met w/ the dr. we discussed it and he agreed with me that he felt that I should do another stim cycle if that's what DH and I were comfortable with, when the time comes- and I thought it was settled.
Today I went in to get drawn for the Tennessee bloods and I saw my nurse in passing and asked her if she thought I would by cycling in Nov/Dec or if they were going to make me wait until the New Year due to stopping retrievals for a couple of weeks around Christmas.... she told me that I was doing an FET cycle so I could possibly get in in time. I told her I had discussed it w/ my dr and he decided to override that, to allow me to do a stim cycle, and she told me he can't. Chat Icon She also said she'd be emailing him to discuss it with him.
Now I'm worried.... can she convince him to go back on what he originally told me? Even though she's the one that told me he has the authority to override that? I'm so confused and really upset... this was the main thing pulling me back together after this past month and a half. Chat Icon Chat Icon She never even told me she'd contact me once she knew. Do you think he'd change his mind? He wrote it in my file when I was there that I would be able to do another stim cycle using the grant... ugh. I know I have some time since we can't try for another 2 months b/c of the shot but I like having a plan and thought I did. Chat Icon

I highly doubt that the nurse can override him. If that was the case- they would be the ones with the offices.

If I were you, I would put in a call to Dr. K and see what he says.Chat Icon

BTW: I was at the fair yesterday and looked for you, but didn't see you!Chat Icon

I know- I don't want to look like I'm being too pushy either. I'm trying to remain calm and see what comes of it (if anything). I'm getting all of my bloodwork done this week- went for part of it today and hopefully will do the rest either tomorrow or Wed so I'm hoping he calls me w/ the results- otherwise if a nurse calls w/ results I'll ask to either put in a message for him or just set up another meeting w/ him to go over what the next steps are once we have the results... and go over it w/ him in person. Chat Icon I just hate feeling nervous like this... Chat Icon

Really? We were there- 2nd row in from where the stage was but toward the other end. My MIL was w/ me. So many ppl said they were coming but I didn't see anyone. Chat Icon Too bad, I would've liked to have met you! Chat Icon

Re: Can a nurse override a dr?

First off...never made it to the fair. But if you are doing the Riverhead fair, I will definitely be there. It's by far my favorite. Plus, this year I'm entering some of my jarred stuff.

Secondly...Honestly, I was very surprised that he said you could do a stim cycle before using up your embies.
My guess is that he doesn't really know the accounting protocol and thought you could do it. I've always had to use up my embryos before thinking about another stim cycle, but mine is through insurance so it may be different. I would try to talk to someone in the accounting department before questioning him.

I don't know the answer but, I hate your nurse. Why is she so against you??? The only thing I can think of is, Dr. K. doesn't know the rules regarding the grant. I hope she's wrong. Chat Icon

Hope you can get this straightened out quickly the way you want it.

One questions - when is the Riverhead fair? I know totally off topic. I will go to that one.

generally nurses cant override MDs for medical things. But if this will put their grant in jeapordy she may remind him of that.

Thanks everyone. Chat Icon I don't have any updates- I never heard from anyone in the office. I was going to call but decided to just wait it out and see what develops from it at this point. Hopefully it'll work out however it's supposed to. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am actually not going to be at the Riverhead fair- but the date is October 12th from 10-5. I'll have to check w/ DH to see if he's up for taking a trip over there.... if so then maybe we'll see some of you there! Chat Icon

I'm sure there are many rules associated with the grant and Dr. K may not be aware of them. Maybe you have to go through your frosties before you do another stim cycle which actually would make sense. FET are much cheaper and if it works, grant money was conserved allowing more patients to benefit from the grant. BTW I'm also using the grant for my IVF cycle. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I know it makes sense, in some ways, but I don't know why she would tell me one thing (that he 'could' override that) and then change it after he did just that. Chat Icon I'll just wait it out and see what he says...

So she just called me and of course I was in a bad area and had no bars on my cell phone so now I've called her right back and she's not available. Chat Icon I have a huge knot in my stomach- this can't be good. Chat Icon Why for once can't something just go easy? Chat Icon Chat Icon
