Would you change insurance co?
My open enrollment is coming up in October and I'm trying to decide if I should switch insurance policies? Right now I have a policy through Duke that I can only go to doctors in certain zip codes. Basically Duke/Durham doctors. I don't plan on changing doctors, but I was concerned with choosing a doctor in case I would need a Lap again. I want a highly skilled doctor since I do want to have another baby at some point. Right now, I can only go to doctors in Duke Reproductive. If I switch plans, then I can get a Blue Cross & Blue Shield HMO plan for $35.00 more per month, but have more options as far as doctors to do the procedure are concerned. Also, I guess for anything we need done. I was just thinking it might be nice to have a choice on doctors in case I need that procedure again. What do you think? Thanks!

I would change insurance companies. Just for the peace of mind in knowing that if anything happens, you have the best choice of doctors. $35 a month isn't that much at all.

Re: Would you change insurance co?
It's a tough call actually. Only because I know you guys have been struggling off and on and more importantly - Duke Drs. are apparently the best in the Carolinas. I have a friend who drove from SC to Duke to have a procedure done. The $35/month isn't much at all...but if you have access to the best Drs. for free, then why switch...KWIM?

If I had a choice I would pick the plan where I can go out of network.
Half of my doctors don't take insurance.

Re: Would you change insurance co?
I would stay if your satisfied, a lap is a minor procedure done o/p...you shouldnt have an issue finding a highly qualified dr...most OBGYN's are highly qualified in that surgery, if you think that you might need more then that down the line, then maybe switch now.

Would there be major changes in other areas of your coverage? Like more or less IUIs/IVF? Changes in your regular care coverage?
I'd look at everything first before making that decision and really compare.

Re: Would you change insurance co?
Thanks everyone for your responses... There is no major change. The plan I have now only covers partial Infertility issues after you have had 2 years of service at Duke and the Blue Cross has NO Infertility coverage at all. Either way it's a lose, lose situation. I don't know if I'll need that coverage, but there's a big chance I might next time around. The only reason why I'm not sure about the doctors who would do the surgery at Duke is because the doctor that did my Lap last time, after the procedure told me that I could never get PG again, ever! She wanted me to do Lupron, etc. I just did not like how she was talking to me. She's no longer there. She went out on her own I think, and I don't know the qualifications of the other doctors there. I have to go through the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility at Duke. I don't know any of the doctors there. If I went to Blue Cross I can use the doctors at The North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine. They're highly rated for something, I can't remember. I don't know. I don't know if it matters or not. I'll have to really think about it. Thanks!

Re: Would you change insurance co?
I'm not sure how your insurance works, but would BC/BS still give you access to the Duke doctors? If so, it might def be worth the extra $$ per month to get the widest choice of options out there.

Re: Would you change insurance co?
Yes, I would still be able to go to the same doctors. It would just give me other options if I want.
