Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

If I could do it I would, I haven't ventured to look at the instructions yet...but DH is adament about having someone do it and/or inspect it, and honestly I DON'T trust DH doing it, he gets nervous and frazzled, where as I am usually the calm one that puts everythign together, oh well....Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

I chose other because I am not sure yet. We will install it ourselves, but I might go get them checked out to make sure it was done properly. I know that will be a big hit to DH's ego - but I hear there is such a high percentage of them being installed incorrectly. We'll see.

Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

DH will probably install, but at the hospital I will be giving birth at, they have car seat inspectors, so I'll have them double-check it. Better safe than sorry.....

We'll install it ourselves, but will get it checked out. I read somewhere that a large percentage of carseats are installed incorrectly. It can't hurt to make sure we installed it correctly.

Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

I'm going to install in myself and either have my Dad look at it (he's retired from the NYPD) or bring it to be inspected.

I mean how long can the inspection take? This little meatball is certainly worth the time!

I don't think anyone should take it as a question of their intelligence unless this is something you were trained how to do. I consider myself pretty darn smart but I would not try to perform surgery!

Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

DH installed the infant seat base in his car while I supervised (IE read the directions and told him what to do). I installed the infant seat base in my car.

DH tried to install the convertible seat in his car on Sunday but can't get the strap tight enough and refuses to go to the PD. This means I now must drive DD everywhere.

DH and I each did our own cars and found we weren't able to get them tight enough... so we took my car to get inspected and now know how tight to make it and how to get it that way!

It doesn't really have anything to do with being smart. Me and my husband are also relatively smart people but
I take my carseat to get installed professionally every single time - the guy said that EVERY SINGLE ONE of the carseats that people install themselves - is done WRONG. Not one was installed properly.

It's a free service. We are so careful with the bottles we give our babies - the cribs we pick out - no blankets in the crib etc, - I personally do not understand why people are so against getting the carseat done the right way by a professional - when the car is honestly the most dangerous place the babies will be. This is a free service - and takes all of FIVE mintues to do.

I would do it even if they charged me hundreds of dollars. I know my kid is safe god forbid something happens.

Re: Spinoff to Carseat thread

I installed the infant carseat and had it inspected. That has NOTHING to do with worry mommy syndrome but safety. About 80% of carseat are improperly installed.

It turns out it only needed to be tighten just a bit more.

I went to the Traffic Safety board council in Mineola.... aka the carseat guy in Mineola as we have called him.

It's not about having somebody else do it for you. It's about inspecting you did it right.

The guy told me to remove the seat protector under it. What would happen in case of an accident, etc... It was very helpful.

We had more problems installing the convertible carseat afterwards. The guys knows all the carseat. He is just an expert in what he does.

What's the point to have a carseat if it's not installed properly.

Why think people who do it are "stupid"?

If 80% of them are improperly installed that means ONLY 20% of all of us did it correctly.

In addition it's FREE!!!

I couldn't agree more - and the PO who did ours was so nice. We had one guy put in the infant seat and I took it back to have the convertable installed.

I think that if you are planning on taking it in and out a lot then I would go and watch them do it the first time. You are able to ask questions, which instructions don't really help with.

I could not agree more. And not sure what having a safe car seat installation has to do with nervous mommy syndrome? It's not like I'm taking the bouncy seat or swing to be set up professionally - a car ride can be deadly. But anyway, this is my 3rd child and we will be having all 3 carseats installed professionally.
