I don't think my mom has a brain...
I am going into the hospital to start the Cervidal and then I will be induced with the Pitocin in the early morning. I just got back from the dr. and he said that the baby should be born sometime in the late afternoon/early evening . I called my mom to tell her the status and this is how it goes:
Mom: "Late afternoon/early evening??! Why will it take so long."
Me: Why will it take so long? I am getting the medications in the morning and he will be born within a couple of hours later. How much faster did you want this to go?
Mom: I thought it would be faster!
Me: They don't give me the meds and I pop him out in an hour!
Mom: That's what I was thinking! Like an hour or 2.
Me: If you want it done faster than maybe you should go into labor and push him out faster.
Mom: I had 3 kids, I'm done
Me: Then stop complaining!
I swear....no brains!

Re: I don't think my mom has a brain...
wait, I didn't know we had the same mom!
A LONG LOST SISTER!
yeah, it's sort of scary what moms say sometimes huh? I am starting to wonder if she remembers pregnancy or child birth AT ALL
'I had NO symptoms throughout my pregnancy'
'why would labor take over 12 hours?'
'the baby won't cry for the first several months at all. he'll only sleep'
give me strength!

Sorry I'm laughing but I think that the grandmothers 'forget' the amount of time it takes to push a kid out.
My mother asked me if I would be asleep like she was...uh no mom, you are awake for the whole thing now. Her response was, oh, glad I had you kids years ago then, I would not do it without sleeping through it.

Re: I don't think my mom has a brain...
Wow, that's one of those conversations that would leave me starring at her blankly wondering if she were for real!
I had a good one with my mom last week, I was talking to her about trying to decide is I should go natural or get an epi and she says "do you get novacain for a filling? because if you don't, you don't need an epidural." I just said "i don't htink getting a filling is a good comparison to childbirth"
This came from a woman who had 7 kids!

I keep telling my mom when I have the next one...her response every single time...let's see if you're planning on having a next one after you go through labor with this one....

OMG my mom also said something similar...
oh, and she laughed at me becuase I'm 'making DH stay in the labor room with me' She said I force him to be too involved!
She also was stunned that the baby will stay in my room afterwards. she also chided me for 'insisting on breastfeeding'

In one breath my Mom is 100% in agreement w/ me that I'm really going to be careful about what I eat and how much I gain b/c I'm already a bit overweight and have asthma - so I don't want to put on unnecessary extra weight and be MORE uncomfortable -
In the next breath she's shoving oreos in my face, trying to make me hot cocoa w/ Godiva Chocolate and whole milk and giving me the "YOU're PREGNANT" speech when I say I'm not hungry right now ...........
