Need help with flat iron, dont think im using it correctly.

DH bought me a 1" sedu for my bday. So today, I washed my hair and then blow dried it. I then brush it through once to get the tangles out and tried to use the flat iron. I set it to the right setting (degrees) and started to use it. The ends of my hair came out looking stragly and dry when my hair normally isn't like that. It didn't seem to make it look smoother, just shinier. Is there a correct way to use it? TIA

are you placing it at the root of your head and slowly and gently dragging it down to the end? you can also bend it a bit once you get to the ends so it "curls" under and doesn't lay so limp and flat...

my hair lady tells me to press release, then move down, then press release.. then move down.. that way your hair doesn't get as much breakage.. but I don't iron my hair anyway, so it's a moot point
