Neutering my Boston Terrier?

DH and I haven't neutered our boston terrier yet. He is 3. He just started to lift his leg IN THE HOUSE....not just anywhere but on a chair, the tv stand..things that are able to be marked as if they were outstide. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you think it's too late to stop this problem by neutering him?

Re: Neutering my Boston Terrier?

I won't count on neutering him to just fix the problem, this is now a training issue.

First off make sure you are cleaning the areas he is marking "VERY WELL" with an enzyme cleaner such as "Nature's Miracle" to neutralize the odor so he won't smell where he has previously marked and continue to mark.

Get him fixed

and everytime you catch him in the act atop him right away YELL, "No Busy" or whatever potty command you have and immediately take him outside to go to the bathroom. WHen he goes outside, parise him like he just won the loterry.

Also, don't let him lift his leg while he is outside....if he is peeing with the leg up teh trick is to lightly tap (I hate to say kick, but its likke a little kick) your foot to the leg that is hodling him up. It will throw him off balance and he will put the other leg down!

We got our 12 month old to stop marking this way. DH and I have been raising and training dogs for many years and this has been the best method we have found!

Good Luck!

Re: Neutering my Boston Terrier?

We have a BT, he is 4. We got him neutered as soon as we could.

He recently started lifting his leg as often as possible when we're on a walk...but ONLY when we're on a walk. He'll even lift but not pee...

I would start taking your BT out more often and maybe monitor how much he's drinking as to avoid these accidents (but make sure he's getting plenty of fluids too... don't want to make him thirsty!!).

good luck!
