Spinoff....Politicians!
do you think ALL politicians are shady??
or is it possilbe that there ARE some HONEST politicians out there?? 
(geez it even LOOKS funny to see those 2 words, HONEST and POLITICIAN, in the same sentence!  )

No I do not believe it is possible eveyone has a hidden agenda. I just think some are better than others at hiding it

I think some politicians are not shady. I think most of them start out that way. But unfortunately- the business or politics turns a lot of them shady.

I think that local politicians tend to still be honest. But career politicians have been in the system too long and have learned all the ins and outs and become shady.
Although I do like John McCain and Bill Bradley a lot, so I guess there are a few exceptions to that, but not to many, IMO.

I think there are good poeple out there but I tend to the think that more power=more corruption and this applies to many politicians.

no, I don't. And I think that the one who are shady probably didn't start out that way...it happened somewhere along the way...they hired shady campaign managers, they starting making shady deals in order to get thier agendas taken care of....

i agree as well.
i think they're intentions/agendas start out well, but i guess the nature of the 'business of politics' skews some of them.

I agree. At least, some of them do start out as being honest and doing things for the good of the people. But it seems like in order to move up - they have to play the game.

I also think that a very select few start out with good intentions.
But no, I work with alot of politicians and yes, they are ALL shady and I don't think there's an honest one in the whole lot of them.

I think most start out honest - and end up with their fingers in too many pots. I think the real issue is there is not enough scrutiny on special interest groups & lobbyists that fill politician's pockets.
In order to get higher up the ladder, you need to kowtow to groups for financing. It would be hard to get elected w/o money to help out with campaigns, media time, etc.

good point. didn't even think about it that way.
things can be easily swept under the rug when you're not in the public eye as much.
which is why some of the corruption goes on for YEARS before anyone has a clue.

I think unfortunately the way our system works, politicians need to be shady - make deals, trade in things they don't agree with/ believe in are best for their people, etc ... in order to get other things that they need/want ...
I believe fear of retalitation and not having their party's support keeps a lot of politicians from "doing the right thing/following their heart" ...
I don't think it's a right way to run government, but it's the reality

Interesting. I never looked at it that way. I was thinking more of who seems to actually be able to get stuff accomplished. Like fixing roadways, getting funding to local civic groups, etc.

This is so so so true.
Just as bad if not worse.
Eta: They are the ones you hear about them being "in bed with the mafia" and such (like Judge Gross from Nassau) ... he was able to get away with it for so long because he's not in the public eye as much. Most people didn't even know who he was and the crazy OTHER things he had gotten in trouble (with the law) for and was still a Judge. Then all of a sudden one day it all comes out. A federal judge could have never gotten away with all that because they are more public, nevermind a Supreme Ct Judge.

I tend to think they are all a little shady. I think maybe they may not have started that way, but once your " in it"..it must be hard to be 100% honest and caring blah blah all the time. I cant see it happening in governement. I do think some are probably not out to harm people or purposely lie or cheat, probably a "everyone else does it" kind of approach.
Most politicians all have their own agenda and thats the basis of their careers and motivations.
