Nervous when I sleep...

Because I have a baby on each side, I get nervous during the night when I sleep. I change from my right to left side and I feel like whatever side I am on I am squishing a baby or somehow applying pressure to the umbilical cord or something. Is this even possible? It get so nervous that it wakes me up all night long Chat Icon

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

keep in mind, they're both floating in a giant cushiony pool.... so they're protected. Also, we've lasted millenia not thinking about where the cord is floating, so I'm sure it doesn't matter....

that being said, I'm a bit neurotic like that too... at my growth sono, I asked where the placenta was (just in case it was to one side). Mine is towards the back by my spine, so either side is fine Chat Icon

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

I don't think you have anything to worry about- I switch sides all night too. I don't think its too easy to squish the babies - they are very well protected by the uterus and amniotic fluid.

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

I am 24 weeks now and when I lay on one side or the other sometimes they will kick me, I assume to let me know they don't like that position! So I turn. As I tell my Dh there is no comfortable position, chair, bed, etc. Its constant discomfort with twinsChat Icon

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

Are you far enough along that if they were uncomfortable they would kick you?

Chat Icon
Is that a stupid assumption? - I mean, once they're BORN they'll find a way to tell you if they're uncomfortable, so maybe when they're in there they can do the same?

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

Last night I was laying on my right side and Chat Icon kept kicking and moving around...so I switched sides and she stopped.
I always worry that I'm squishing something when I lay to the side, but I guess everything is just fine.

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

I worry about the same thing. I usually sleep on my left side, but sometimes I have to move a little and change to my right side. When I do Chat Icon kicks and moves a lot so I assume he is on that side and doesnt like the extra pressure. I am sure we are fine though. We have to sleep somehow!

Re: Nervous when I sleep...

Your babies are well protected in there. Your body will let you know if you're not in a good position. I can't lie on my right side at all. It becomes very uncomfortable almost immediately. I also get uncomfortable sometimes when I end up on my back in the middle of the night. I wouldn't worry about it. Chat Icon
