Dog food differences?
We have always bought Natural Choice Large Breed Adult dog food, but now that the prices have gone up, we're thinking about switching to something different. We're not sure which route to go because we hear so many different things about dog food. Like the "grocery store" brand (Purina, etc.) is horrible for your dogs and that the only brands that are good are expensive one's. Being that a 40 lb bag probably doesn't even last a month, we really need to find something more affordable, but I don't want my dog eating the worst food out there. Does anyone have any suggestions on what brands are good that are affordable? I was looking at Nutro Max instead of the Natural Choice since it's $11.00 a bag cheaper, but a lot of the stuff has a smaller percentage of certain ingredients and since I don't know which one's are really important. What brands do you guys buy and why? Thanks!

Re: Dog food differences?
I buy only Pro-Plan. ONe of my dogs has an issue with soy and it's in alot of dog foods. When on sale at Petco it's $35 for a 37.5 lb bag and I go through a bag every 6-8 weeks (2 large dogs).
Be careful switching foods, don't just switch out it can adversely effect their digestive systems. The best recommendation would be to ask your vet for their recommendation on a quality lower costing dog food.

Re: Dog food differences?
we use nutro and our dog really likes it, she's usually a picky eater. We used this brand b/c they make a sensitive stomach formula and our dog has had problems with previous foods we've tried with her. No complaints here!

Re: Dog food differences?
We use Nutra Ultra, Bella loves it, but then again, she will gobble down my parents dog's purina food when we stay at their house, and their dog will eat Bella's food!!

Re: Dog food differences?
We use Martins K9 formula. This guys makes kibble and sells it out of his car shop in Glen Cove - sounds shady by we knew people that swore by it and feed their dogs raw food only and by it through him - and they live in NJ. It's all natural good stuff, no fillers. When we run out and feed our dog pet store food I can definitly see a difference in his coat and energy level.
