Need nursary help

I had planned on re-doing the wood floors in the nursary. My cntractor mentioned that carpet might be better for now, because babies tend to climb out of the crib sometimes and IF he should fall, it would be better on carpet. I was at this, but now he's got me thinking. Plus, I don't really want the polyurathane fumes in my house right now, andcarpet would be quicker to get done. However, on the con side to carpet, I'm thinking allergies, possible peeing incident, throwup. Then there is always the 3rd option of laminate wood floors. Please help me decide.

We did bamboo with a washable cotton area rug. It worked fine.

we have hardwood floors throughout all of our house. I am an asthmatic with a lot of allergies and hardwood floors is teh bast way to get rid of dust and keep allergens down. Carpet traps a lot of allergens and dust.

New carpeting gives off just as many toxic fumes as polyurethane...... whatever you choose, minimize your time int eh rooms for a few days and keep the room well ventilated.

As for the baby falling out of the crib.....they will get hurt that same as if they fall on carpet of wood floors......

I chose carpet. It is much softer than the other two choices and kids have been know to climb out of cribs. You could always put in wood later when your baby is older. And as long as you vaccuum regulary and steam clean monthly I think you can keep any potential alleriges at bay. Also there is a lot of carpets that are considered stain resisitant and would repel a lot of stuff. My cats have been testing this out ever since we got new carpet. They puke on the carpets all the time, and honestly it comes right up.

We have hardwoods throughout and will be putting down an area rug. You can get a nice pad for under the area rug for softness and to protect the floors.

I think the hardwoods will give you more versatility.

Carpets do tend to hold more dirt and dander....and can be bad for Asthma and allergies... espcially with pets....hard wood floors are also so easy to clean... and you can put an area rug!

We have hardwood floors and will probably just do an area rug in the nursery. We haven't ripped up our light colored living room/hallway rug yet and it's driving me nuts because it shows everything!!! One of my pugs also got sick recently and can't get those stains out without renting a carpet cleaner!

for investment purposes, definitely hardwood flooring. laminate or carpet do not increase the value of your home

for fume purposes, pre-finished hardwood! No poly fumes at all

Mom just had her bedroom done and went to lumber liquidators... she got amazing pre-finished hardwood flooring at a reasonable price..... everyone thinks it cost 3X as much as it did

I do agree with carpeting in one regard.. you want something soft on the floor... get a nice wool rug to go over the flooring at ikea... they have wonderful wool rugs at reasonable prices.

you can do the hardwood with the area rug. that's what we have and I like that I can change the style of the area rug if need be and still keep the look of the hardwoods that we have throughout most of the house. DD's area rug is quite large so it covers most of her livable area.

We cheaped out and went with a laminate. We have a dog and I hate how the dog hair gets embedded in the carpets
