Interview Tomorrow
Hello Ladies, I have a problem. I am a NYC school teacher. I just got a call today to interview for a position on Long island. My dream. However, the position is a leave replacement. So I am not guaranteed anything. I am not even sure what the pay is and whether I would get benefits. I am not sure what to think. This is so last minute and I am tenured in the city. I am not even sureif I can leave so late. Or whether I can get my job back if this doesn't work out for next September. So I am rambling!
What should I do???? Help????

Re: Interview Tomorrow
Ask relevant questions on the interview, i.e. is it full year, do you offer benefits. So late in the game you are probably a top candidate, however you have to weigh if it's worth it to risk job stability for an opportunity on LI. I don't know how the NYC system works so I don't know if you could go back, but I would obviously find out these answers before I made any decisions.
Good luck!

Re: Interview Tomorrow
The leave is for a full year. I just don't know if it is a full salary and benefits. I don't know.

Re: Interview Tomorrow
I've done 2 full year leaves and I got the regular teacher salary and benefits. Unfortunately, it didn't lead to a permanent position. Good Luck!

if it's full year, it will be full salary and benefits, but may not necessarily lead to a tenure track position.
i would go on the interview, but i would definitely ask what the chances are it will lead to something... with literally one day befoer you have to report in NYC, you need to ask to cover yourself and i am sure they would understand that.
at least go on the interview...even if it won't lead to something, but maybe they will remember you when they have a tenure track position available.
