NYC Teachers...
Ok, so I am not even going to complain about how depressing it is that we have to go back on Thursday...You all know my pain, its your pain too. I was wondering though, how much time are you taking off? It turns out that I will have to borrow those 20 days, and pay them back eventually. I hate having to owe the BOE. I had another plan too, I was thinking about going back after 4 weeks and then taking every MOn off for the rest of the year instead of going back after Easter break. Not sure what my principal will say about that or how it will work.

Re: NYC Teachers...
It looks like I'll be taking 12 weeks. I wanted to stretch it until the end of the fall semester, but it doesn't look like we can swing it financially. Now I've been thinking that since I'm due back right after Christmas break, I might come back the day before the break so I can get paid for the break. If it works that way, that is. I have to figure it out.

Re: NYC Teachers...
Thankfully I am not going back at all. I'm due on Sept. 25th but my OB filled out the FMLA paperwork for me so I can start my 12 weeks now and then once all of the 12 weeks are up I am putting in for childcare leave. I didn't want to go back at all and I especially didn't want to borrow days since I don't plan on returning to teach in the city schools. For once the end of August is NOT depressing me!! Good luck going back though to you guys.......I know it totally stinks!!

Re: NYC Teachers...
I am due the week of spring break. I plan on taking my 6 weeks and then using FMLA for about 2-3 weeks in June. I won't return to work till the next school year in Sept. I have plenty of days in my CAR for my 6 weeks, I was wondering If I would get paid during the summer. ANyone here take their maternity the end of the school year get paid during the summer?

Re: NYC Teachers...
Yes, I did. I was actually suppose to go back 2 weeks before and then my husband was in an accident. I went in the last day just to get my stubs and any coverage checks. Talk to you payroll sec, she can probably work something out. Good Luck

Re: NYC Teachers...
I am due over December break. I originally thought that I could start my FMLA on January 5th, but a friend of mine told me it begins on the day you give birth even if that is during a school break. Totally unfair, as I would not be able to return to work that week even if I wanted to--it's closed!!!
So, I am taking my 12 weeks FMLA and maybe a grace period (the meaning of which is still a little fuzzy to me...) and will return to work sometime in March. I would love to return in late March as opposed to early March, but I hold the benefits in the family, so I have that responsibility. Blah.
