So confused....Sonogram questions
Last night I got a sono cause the dr couldnt feel the baby's head with just feeling around my stomach. He found the hearbeat but couldnt feel a head. So I got a sono to see where the head was. Completely dropped. So we saw it. But Im confused when I asked to dr to tell me how big the baby was he said he couldnt tell me, he didnt know. Dont the sono machines tell you how big the baby is? I thought thats how they tell, Am I wrong?

Not sure if they can give you length since the baby is all bunched up, but usually they measure the stomach and head and can tell you an estimate on weight. Maybe the doc misunderstood what you were asking exactly?

usually a Sono can't tell you the size if youre looking for the placement of the head.
It takes measurements of all sorts of stuff entered into a program/equation then it spits out size, etc.
Sound like how "Big" the baby was, wasn't really the importance of the Sono.. but good to know all is ok!
ETA: oh sorry, i wanted to add.. i say this cuz since my baby is breech I get lots of 'checks' but only ever got one 'size' told to me.. that was at my growth sono

Agree with previous posters there are 3 measurments, stomach, femur bone and head then it estimates weight. Dr. probably just didn't do it.

at our doctor's office, she only did quick checks with the sono towards the end. we had to go to the hospital to the more advanced sono in order to get measurements of the weight and fluid level, NST, etc.
