For Those With Gestational Diabetes

So far this past month (I am 32 weeks) I was controlling it by diet. Now, all of a sudden my levels have spiked. For instance, instead of having my fasting under 90 like my Doctro wanted I am getting 100-108 readings. And in the daytime instead of being under 130 an hour after a meal I am like 135-150. So I guess it's INSULIN time, unfortunately.

Here is my question. With the injections...and being pregnant, can we inject into the belly or no? I am hoping because I know that is where injections hurt me the least!

I had GD with my first pregnancy but didnt use insulin so not sure about the belly. What about your butt? I would think it wouldnt hurt there?

I have GD and they said you can inject into your belly but it may be too sensitive due to pregnancy. They told me to use my thighs. It doesn't hurt at all in the thighs........I've been doing insulin shots now 4X/day for almost 6 weeks. Good luck!

P.S. - Totally normal too that you're seeing spikes. I was told by my endocrinologist and OB that as pregnancy progresses and your hormone levels continue to change it will affect your sugars. So basically, what worked one day or week may not work the next. They are constantly adjusting my insulin dosage to keep up with my changing hormones. It's normal.

I don't take insulin - but I do have to take lovenox everyday by injection, and I put it in my belly - it does hurt more now that I am getting more pregnant - but it won't hurt the baby.
