Re: Can you schedule a C-section just because?

I think it depends on your Dr. My cousin used Dr Pilleteri (sp?) and she said she wanted a c section just bc, he had no problem with it

Do you want a section? I just found out I most likely need one and I am so sad. Can I ask why you want one? Chat Icon

Re: Can you schedule a C-section just because?

I think it depends on the doctor. My doc would have if that was what I wanted. But then I came to learn that he would actually prefer not to do a surgery unless it was absolutely necessary.

Be forewarned. This has been a hot topic here.

There is something calming to me about knowing exactly when the baby is going to come and knowing that I'm not going to labor for 20 hours and THEN have a c-section. I think that the reassurance of knowing what is going to happen is calming.

Give me the Reader's Digest version -- why would people be opposed to a C-section?

I read all the birth stories and TONS of women have scheduled C-sections. How could that possibly be a "drama llama" situation?

Re: Can you schedule a C-section just because?

I think a lot of people and doctors would choose to avoid a c/s because it is major abdominal surgery. Any surgery comes with risks and of course recovery. However, I think some doctors prefer c/s becuase it is a controlled sitation and easy to fit into their schedules. I don't think many would schedule one just becuase you want it though (and I would be wary of one who would - JMO).

Because it can have serious health affects on your baby. My DS is one of them that ended up in NICU because of my c-section. But I didn't have a choice in the matter.

Also complications from the surgery, long recovery time for some after, infected incisions, etc.

I said I wasn't touching it but I didChat Icon

Because some people have Dr's that give you an option for no medical reason. And some think this is wrong. Me included.

Honey, I am with you 100%. When Ed-lie was breech, I sought A LOT of comfort in knowing that we would be planning her birthdate if she did not turn by week 37 (which was yesterday) but she did.

But when she turned, I was like "Holy Crap. I may actually have to push this kid out." It is terrifying on all counts no matter HOW you deliver.

I spoke of the same fear you expressed with my doctor. Despite the fact that ultimately, we want the best shot at a vaginal delivery (WITH an epidural), that I do NOT want to labor excessively. He told me that they would not let me go for a very long time before making that determination. There are also risks for laboring too long and frankly. I don't want to take them.

Right now, we are simply hoping that I am able to dilate because I have severe scar tissue on my cervix which kept me from getting PG natually in the first place. All he could say was "only time will tell."

You and your DH will make the right choice for yourself.

Most c/s are scheduled for certain reasons including prior c/s, breech baby, baby measruing large, etc... It's become a heated discussion in the past, but everyone has their own opinion so if this is something you feel strongly about don't pay too much attention. We all have our own preferences!!

Bc the large majority of those women needed them for a medical reason. "Just because" isn't a medical reason. If that is the safest way for my baby to come out so be it, but I certainly will be planning to have my body do what it is meant to do naturally.

To answer your question, there are certain drs who will perform them "jist because" but I will hold my tongue on how I feel about that. To each their own.

I just wanted to offer the link to this article. It compares risks with c-sections to vaginal births. Everybody has to do what's right for them and their baby. I don't want to cause any drama, just wanted to be helpful if this is of interest to you.
