Hello everyone! This is my first post on lifamilies
I was wondering if anyone knows any reputable bengal breeders.
We had a bengal kitten recently, that we got from a person I beleive to be a reputable breeder--however, an autopsy of our kitten showed that he had FIP. He was not gaining any weight and was deteriorating and not responding to meds. To my absolute horror, I found him in the morning in a comatose state-we had to euthanize him shortly thereafter. The vet diagnosed him with a liver shunt, and it was not until the autppsy that FIP was confirmed or even brought up. The breeder was kind enough to pay the majority of our vet bills and offered us a new kitten. However, I am a little scared that she may still have FIP in her cattery, and although it is rare, I am worried about getting another kitten from her, despite that she is a genuine person. Does anyone have any thoughts??? TIA.

Kara has Bengals and is EXTREMELY well versed in the breed.
I'm sure she could help you.

I am SO SORRY for your loss. FIP is an absolutely DEVASTATING disease for which there is no cure. I am on the breed committee for Savannah cats and we, with the Bengal cat community have been taking donations to try to fund a study on this horrible disease.
You are absolutely correct that her cattery has FIP. That being said, even reputable breeders have had FIP scares in the past. FIP is not uncommon as there are many cats in the same place. Sometimes it’s as simple as a particular pairing makes the kittens more susceptible to FIP, sometimes it is just a ‘unclean’ cattery. I would ask her what she thinks caused the FIP. A good breeder would be devastated at having FIP in their cattery and she sounds like she really did the right thing by paying the vet bills.
If you’d still like a kitten from her, make sure you get a Corona Titer done FIRST before you bring the kitten home. Get educated about corona titers and FIP and see if you’d be wiling to get another cat from her.
If not, I do know MANY reputable Bengal breeders, but they are out of state. How do you feel about shipping a kitten or going to pick it up? I flew to Kentucky to get my Bengal! Let me know what you think, I would love to help you move on from your loss

We got our bangels in new jersey we had three of them, but some A HOLE keeps stealing them, stole our female and came back for our marble male but he came back home. If i catch you have no idea what i'll do !

Omg what a cutie. I'm so sorry that this little angel died..... But at least you now can get info from our very well informed KittytheStray to make sure you don't go thru this heartache again!
