some questions about ectopic..

If any of you have had an ectopic pregnancy and an entire tube removed as I have, or know someone that has had this done, could you please tell me what your recovery was like? How long were you in pain? How long until you were back at work?

Right now, it's been two days but I'm having trouble walking and standing up straight, although I feel better laying flat on my back with my head propped up.

Thanks!

Terry

I've had my tube removed, although not b/c of an ectopic

It took me a week to feel decent again

Re: some questions about ectopic..

My situation was probably a little different than your's. I had my right tube removed laparoscopically due to an ectopic in February 2007. They did a D&C and removed the grapefruit sized ovarian cyst that caused the whole stupid mess. By the time they caught mine, I was bleeding internally and didn't know it. I got really lucky that they caught it when they did. I was about 9 weeks pregnant.

It took me three weeks to feel totally better. I was back at work in 3.5 weeks - which was probably a little too soon. For the first few days after my surgery I couldn't bend at the waist (and I have a pretty high pain tolerance). It was tough to go to the bathroom, to get up and down from bed and to do almost anything myself. Coughing brought me near tears.

I started getting around a little better about 4-5 days into my recovery. By the end of the first week I was on my way to feeling better, but still tired and coud only lay on my back. The pain lasted a while and I was really tired for weeks.

My best advice is that when you start feeling better, don't push yourself to do things. You can set yourself back. I did a little.

GOOD LUCK and FEEL BETTER SOON. If you need to talk, FM me. I'm sorry you have to go through this. It $ucks. Chat Icon

Thanks for your post. I was bleeding internally by the time they caught my ectopic too. I had thought I had a miscarriage so I was surprised to find out about the mass in my right tube. I would have been about 8.5 weeks by the time they found it (but I thought I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks because I had contractions and passed tissue - sorry if TMI). I wonder if I could have had twins? I have so many questions for my doctor when I meet her for follow up. She was not around after the surgery because it was the middle of the night.

Anyway, this sounds like exactly how I feel right now - can't get in and out of bed without help, going to the bathroom is difficult, and laughing or coughing is beyond painful.

You sound like a very strong woman! Chat Icon
