HELLP/Preeclampsia - anyone have anything to share?

I have preeclampsia, and now may have HELLP. Yes, I have searched the net, and am absolutely terrified at this point, especially of stroke. My only personal knowledge of either is that my sister was eclampsic after she delivered 7 years ago. She had so many seizures that we almost lost her.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight they can share.

TIA.

I had preeclampsia w/my DS. He was born 6 wks early. My Dr. took me out of work immediately (bedrest) and as it progressed, I went to a high risk Dr. who put me in the hospital immediately. They kept going back and forth on whether to deliver the baby or not by checking my bp and urine protein every day. In the end, all worked out fine. DS was 4 lbs. 12 oz. when born and stayed in the NICU for a week.

How far along are you? What did your Dr. say to do? (what was his/her plan of action for you)?

Don't know about HELLP but I feel like I saw someone post about it recently.

In any case, I'm sending you Chat Icon Chat Icon and Chat Icon Chat Icon that all turns out well.

Re: HELLP/Preeclampsia - anyone have anything to share?

I had preeclampsia with my DS. Like the prior poster, my obgyn kept thinking about delivering me early. I went on strict left side lying bedrest at 34 weeks. I was only permitted to get up to go to the bathroom and the obgyn. I also had some othe complcations with my eyes. In the end everything turned out fine. I delivered DS at 39 weeks. he was 7 lbs 14 oz and healthy. I ended up having some hormonal issues that I am still dealing with. I am sorry - I don't know what HELP is, but I wish you the best of luck. I know what you are feeling and if you need to fm, I am here to listen. My thoughts are with you for a healthy pregnancy and an easy delivery. Remember, every pregnancy is different so it does not mean yours will be like your sisters. Just make sure your obgyn knows about her pg. Perhaps there are some lessions learned to be gathered from hers.

I have nothing to contribute as far as preexlampsia experiences go, but I just wanted to send you Chat Icon

try to stay positive, and work closely with your Dr.... you'll be OK. Unfortunately, it's not that uncommon of a condition, and I'm sure your Dr. has plenty of experience with it.......

I had preeclampsia with DS. I was put on bedrest for 3 months. DS was delivered via emergency c-section at almost 36 weeks. My pressure was getting out of control and put me into labor so that is why I had to get an emergency.

Hang in there. With this PG it looks like I may get it againChat Icon

Try and stay off the MD web pages and such. It will drive you insane. Just listen to your dr. Odds are you will deliver early but I am sure everything will be just fineChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS did have to spend 4 days in NICU but from the c-section not from being a little early.

Re: HELLP/Preeclampsia - anyone have anything to share?

I had preeclampsia. It developed around 32 weeks, and I was monitored by my OB very closely right up to delivery at 39w2d when during my regular visit my BP was through the roof and my protein had shot up as well. Baby was perfectly fine. I was in recovery for @ 4 hours after the c-section instead of an hour, but after that all was A-OK.

I had preeclampsia nd othe rissues. They delivered DD at 32.5 weeks. She was 3lbs 15oz and breathing on her own. She stayed in NICU for 21 days. I was upset to deliver early but as my doc said, he rather get her out now than to let the fluid build up and lose both.

Just stay off your feet and monitor your weight closely.

i was diagnosed w/ pre eclampsia @35 weeks w/DS. strict bedrest for 2 weeks and delivered @ 37. he was a NICU baby for a week. I begged off the Magnesium therapy, my doctor relented because i kept telling him i was going to be fine(mother's intuition)

I had ds 1 day shy of 32 weeks.I ended up with severe pre-e...had an emergency c when my pressure spiked, had horrendous headache, and was already losing my reflexes. I had already been in the hospital for a week. DS is now 18 months and perfect...hang tight and listen to your body!

Wow, thank you so much EVERYONE!

I am 37+ weeks now, and we know already that this baby is ready! My BP had been tentative all pregnancy, but it is really high now. (I cannot get it below 155/100 unless I am totally still on my left side.)
I hate that I missed a lot of the symptoms of HELLP initially, and that even with the BP issues, no one thought to ask or inquire??? (I have a new and very proactive OB.) I see my OB Monday morning (follow-up to having spent the day in the hospital Thursday). I am scared, but your accounts and encouragement really help.

Thanks again.

I had preeclampsia with my DS. I delivered at a little over 35 weeks. I was on magnesium during/after delivery. My BP was I think at its highest 180/100.
