I think its cute & probably quite functional. It fits in well with the rustic decor in the picture.
I like this style(doesn't have to be these colors) of nook better.

I saw one just like the back one you posted on craigslist....it looked very well made but it was pine or oak not black. Maybe you could buy that one & paint it yourself. Sometimes when you order furniture like that online its not that sturdy.

I LOVE this! I saw it in the Ballard Design catalog and tore it out for future reference. I may have to completely re-do the kitchen to make it work

I like the black one very much. DH and I are thinking about getting one of these units too, I think they're great.
Did you find that set at Montgomeryward.com?
ETA: just be careful because that set is pine and pine is realllllly soft wood - it will get beat up easily.
