I did my hospitl tour - loved my tour
I am so glad I got to do the tour. It was wonderful. I feel so comfortable about my hospital and staff. The instructor went over from the moment you walk in to the moment you are discharged.
The labor and delivery rooms was something I never expected. I thought it was going to look like an operating room. It really makes you feel like you are in your own bedroom. The rooms are so nice and cozy. It has all the equipment of a hospital and the soothing feeling of being in your own room. They really made it seem like you are not in a hospital. Really nice.
After delivery you go to the mother baby unit (MBU) and the security is amazing. The hospital goes all out to protect the safety and identity of mother, baby and family.
Each mother is given her own private room. They had a wall with a calendar with each day the amount of babies delivered. The most I saw was 10 in one day. While their today I saw 2 ladies in their rooms, and one new mommy heading to her room. The floor itself was really quiet.
We saw the NICU which was across from a special nurses station and their was one little baby in there. He was born at 29 weeks and that was a month ago. Oh he was so precious. The nurse was holding him and he looked so alert. He was just incredably adorable. He currently weighs in at 4lbs.
After NICU we went to the look at the nursery which is across from a nurses station. Baby is with the mother the entire time in the hospital so the only time the baby is in the nursery is if baby has to have tests done or the mother requested to have the baby in the nursery. We saw 2 babies in the nursery and each had a nurse taking care of them. They werent in their long so they may have been in their by the mothers request.
Overall I am really confident in the care, staff and hospital. If you can do a hospital tour with your hospital I would suggest taking the time to do it. It'll give you an overview of what you need to do, where you need to go and what to expect.

i am glad you had a great experience - i loves our hospital tour too, it wasn't at detailed b/c there were so many moms giving birth that we couldn't see a delivery room but we saw a pic and it's just like you describe - like a bedroom with medical equipment.
it made me feel so much better to go and know what to expect when i go into labor!

LB: exactly. I feel so much more prepard. Especially since I know what parking garage DH needs to head to. The hospital also has valet parking which I thought was great. So he can hand the keys over to the valet and be with me the whole time instead of just dropping me off at the door and go find parking.
