He's been ferberized

I have a succes story to tell... Thanks to Jens wonderful tips!

The 1st night I was going to try this...Ryan didnt fall asleep during his last bottle (he usually does) So I thought, no better time than now! I put him in his crib, kised him goodnight, and walked out... w/in seconds he was asleep w/ just a little whimpering!

Around 1ish he woke ( this is the usual...hi i want .5oz and to sleep in your bed time) So first I let him cry for 5 min... gave him his bink..kissed him, rubbed his belly and out I went...Then I waited 10 min, repeated the above...Then 15min... Then I said after these last 20 if hes not asleep Im just gonna pick him up....WELL I didnt have to....off to baby dream land he went!

The next 2 nights, he was back to sleeping 10 hrs. straight through, and last night he woke at 1, I went in gave him a kiss rubbed his belly etc...and w/in 5 min he was asleep.... (last night we pulled a 12 hr nightChat Icon )

Although, he naps during the day...he has to be rocked to sleep...so I started breaking that habit as well... About every 2-3 hrs I see him getting sleepy, so I just lay him in his crib, and put on his mobile....he usually just talks to himself, or whimpers til he falls asleep...this was much easier than the nights.....

My little boy is much happier now that his sleep has been regulated!Chat Icon

P.S.- so is mommy

Re: He's been ferberized

good job Marissa!!

I really am SUCH an advocate of this, I think so many people assume crying it out is cruel and goes on forever but it really doesn't...after just a few days there is such a difference - and really not much crying at all.

I think a lot of moms have a problem with the detachment and letting the babies be more independent - I did, I felt bad that she didn't need me to go to sleep anymore, and I missed our rocking to sleep sessions for a while - but now I realize that wasn't really quality time...I get MUCH better quality time with her during the day now because she isn't cranky and tired. She is fun and playful and always in a good mood.

I'm happy for you - and I am glad I could help!

This is very true... last night when I head him... I WANTED to go get him and put him in my bed... cuz I missed him... BUT then I reminded myself he has his own crib for a reason..... Before I had time to give it a 2nd thought he was out cold!Chat Icon

I couldn't have said it better myself! And, on top of that, I think it's just so important to teach our babies how to soothe themselves to sleep instead of relying on props after props after props. The absolute best part of all is that Alex is in such a better mood now that she's learning how to soothe herself. It makes for a much happier family overall Chat Icon
