The mom was diagnosed with cancer...left all of these video tapes for her daughter for when she grew up. Including one about when your dad remarries and when you want to call your new stepmom, mom, etc...
very touching.
or you could just rent My Life Without Me - exact same plot

That was one of the most touching things I have seen in a long time. What really got me the most was the letter the daughter wrote to the new wife. Although she couldn't be there in person, her mom reallly raised a wonderful little girl. I actually laughed a little at the makeup lesson!
I spent about 1/2 hour sobbing while watching it.
