Re: Lamaze
We went yesterday, I am 29 weeks. I went through the doctor's office. See if they have any classes available.
It wasn't just Lamaze, it was a lot of other information as well as a hospital tour. It was very informative for us.

Re: Lamaze
i took it thru my hospital, i was 31 weeks and DH and i took an all-day saturday class. it was also offered as an evening class that you could take five mondays in a row from 7-9pm each day.
if you can, definitely do an all-day class... we were supposed to go from 9am-5pm, but the teacher let us go early as long as we covered all the info (which we did).

Re: Lamaze
We are taking the classes right now despite everyone else's opinion that it is bascially useless. Many people will watch the videos and say its enough. Personally, I am finding it to be a great way for DH and I to have time together before the baby is born and to get him more involved in the birthing process. We are both enjoying what we have learned so far and do not consider it a waste of time or money at all. I also never want to look back and say "I wish I did it."
ETA: I am now 35+ weeks and they wanted us to be finished with our class at least 4 weeks before our due date. Wednesday is our last class.

Re: Lamaze
I did it last year before having my DS. I would never say not to do it because I thought it was a great experience, however, I wont be doing it again. I did it thru the hospital so we also got the hospital tour which I really enjoyed and that made me feel more at ease. We did a one day, all day long class when I was about 28-30 weeks.

Re: Lamaze
I'll admit, I didn't find the classes all that useful. BUT- I agree that in a way it's like a rite of passage when having your first child. We enjoyed the time together and it WAS awesome taking the tour.
That said, in addition to the classes I also rented "Laugh and Learn Lamaze" from my local library. I found that DVD to be EXTREMELY informative in regards to breathing techniques. What was nice was we could space it out over the course of a few nights rather than try to cram all the info into a certain time span.
ETA: Due to work and grad school schedules, and our hospital being an hour away, we didn't start the classes until I was 34 weeks. I was 38 weeks when they finished. Everyone in the class (who were all in their early third trimester) was like when I'd come waddling in.

Re: Lamaze
We did the one day class through our OB's office about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was worth it (and I really enjoyed it too!) for the fact that we learned a lot about the birthing process, what to expect when we go to St. Charles, and a tour of the hospital which was exciting!! Plus it was so nice to spend the day with DH doing "baby stuff". We are both so excited and feel a little more prepared in terms of what to expect when the big day arrives. This is our first so I think it was worth taking and I guess we'll see if the Lamaze breathing helps when the time comes. I'm sure you could get by without the class but I just thought it was such a fun, informative day so for me I'm glad I did it.
EDIT - I was about 29w3d when we took the class.
