It's like a certain innocence has been lost...
Since I got PG while on the pill, I have serious trust issues with just about any form of birth control.
I'm on the ring now and I just don't trust it... every month I'm scared that it will fail me. Whereas before if I missed a pill here or there I wouldn't even bat an eye.
And I'm going to admit that, MUCH to my SHOCK and dismay, I've even had a condom fail me more than once since having a baby. Thankfully, those failures didn't result in a pregnancy (like anyone would have believed me! ).
I feel like I no longer have control of my body in a way... because I got PG while on BCP I almost feel like the timing of my next pregnancy (if there is to be one) is not under my control!
Am I the only one that goes "HALLELUIAH!" every month that AF shows up since having a baby? Or is this something that happens to alot of new moms or women who've had surprise pgs? How can I relax? Cause I really do need to when it comes to this...will it just go away with time? Because seriously, every month since my first period PP, I am freaking out worrying if I am pg again or not.

Re: It's like a certain innocence has been lost...
I am the same way as you...although I didn't get pregnant on the pill...I got PG very quickly after going off of it...so if I miss a day I FREAK out. But, I have to realize that I did take the pill for 10 years before going off of it and I wasn't always the smartest about taking it when I was younger and I never had a problem...
Were you on medication while taking it or miss any? Is that why you got PG. I hear lots of good things about the ring too...
I guess it's so much scarier for us now because we already have little ones and I know I am not ready for another, whereas before it was like, OK, if I get PG then it will be OK because I am married and we are talking about a family in the future anyway. I JUST had a nightmare that I was pregnant again the other night...and am anxiously waiting for AF as we speak...I still have the twinge of uncertainty...

Re: It's like a certain innocence has been lost...
Both my pregnancies on OTC never made it past the 2nd month and I got pregnant with Jack the first month I was totally off.
I know how your feel. If I see a change in CM I freak out which has happened twice. I think I have taken 3 tests in 8 months. Naturally as soon as I test she comes and I'm so happy.
I'm on Yasmin now and it is so much better then OTC in so many ways. But I gotta say when I know that I'm ovulating I'm somewhat afraid to do the deed just in case...

I am actually having the opposite problem. I did well on the pill before becoming PG now that I am back on I have had my period every other week for 4 months. Needless to say this is my last week on the pill and then we will be figuring something else out

Re: It's like a certain innocence has been lost...
I actuallly could've written this post myself...
I found myself taking a HPT this morning.... AF isnt late...but I just havent felt good, and was terrified it was due to another preg. Lucky for me it was a BFN...
I too got preg on the pill, and to this day, dont know if he was due to an antibiotic or the pills failure (Im not sure when I concieved vs. when I was on the meds)
I want more children....but seriously not for awhile!!!!
Im terrified everytime we have sex....and find myself trying to avoid it all the time!
I keep saying I know God knows I cant handle that right now, and i just have to have faith he wont put me in that situation, but other times thats just not enough..

You speak to your doctor about an IUD. You never think about it, never have to take anything everyday. Pregnancy on the IUD is extremely, extremely rare.

Antibiotics do cause BC to be less effective. Back up methods should be used until the your period (following the last antibiotic taken) comes.
I have the same fears. Took me a while to get pregnant the first time and the second it was a HUGE shock! Even though I have the IUD, I'm still a little nervous until I have my one month check-up, tomorrow.

No I know that...but after having the amnio at the end of my preg. I found out I was 2 weeks further than we thought I was... dating my conception previous to getting sick, and being ok an antibitotic, meaning it was simply the pills failure!

It's not meant to be scary! I just had two of them back to back (18 months apart) and my body needs a break, especially since I'm nursing and nursed the first one. It's just come apparent to me that once can do the trick.

No - don't be scared! For most (if not all of us) it's not that we don't want another baby...it's just that we don't want another baby right NOW. If I were to get pg now, I would be happy regardless, especially now knowing what it's like to have a baby -- I was way more scared the first time around. It's really about 2 things for me: one is that my first pg was a surprise, while I was on the pill, and the other is that I have a 6 month old who I am just not ready to take any attention away from! And babies are alot of work... I just can't imagine having two so close in age.

I did speak to my Dr about an IUD and he kind of talked me out of it because of my age and the fact that I may want more children in the future. I know the risks of future fertility problems are extremely low, but they are there, whereas they aren't with hormonal BC.
But you are right, I might have to revisit the IUD option if I keep worrying like this.

Re: It's like a certain innocence has been lost...
I had became PG while I was on BC as well I was on the patch. Which I loved cuz I had no side affects with it no weight gain mood swings or anything but once I became PG I was a little leary of going back on it so I went to the shot after I gave birth. The shot made me gain weight and I wasn't a happy camper I would have some mood issues so I went back to the patch but I am still very leary of it I have finally decided to give the pill another shot. THe reason I had switched from pills to the patch was also becuz the pills weren't agreeing with me some would make me get my period twice a month some would make me skip all together and others made me sick.

Actually that's not completely true. The Depo shot causes fertility problems for many people.
I'm young (26) and have the IUD. In the mirena literature it only says one child is more beneficial than none ( I think your Dr said two???) Anyhow, this is the reason I went the IUD route because I'm pretty sure we are done but then who knows 5 years from now.

Thanks, I didn't know that about the Depo shot. Although it's not one of the options I was considering anyway.
And yes, you are right my Dr felt having 2 for my age would make me a better candidate... I think I'm the perfect candidate for an IUD...I just can't bring myself to do it just yet.

It doesn't hurt at all. I can assure you that i didn't even know it was already in. I'm going today to have it checked (just a quick check-up they recommend one month later.) The only thingthat does stink is spotting, but hopefully it will end soon.

It's not the pain I'm worried about (well, except that I've read that your period cramps can be worse with it) it's more the whole idea of having a foreign object in my body. And I know it's the most used form of BC in the world even though it's not nearly as popular in the US, but somehow that doesn't make me feel too much better about it.
Are your periods much worse with it? Does the spotting go away?

Maybe with the Copper IUD the cramps/bleeding will be worse, but with the Mirena (after the initial 3-6 months) should be a very light period or non-existant.
I can't answer about periods because I just had it put in a month ago and I'm BFing. I've had spotting for almost the whole month and it's normal up to the first 3 (some say 6 months.) I think the 6 months isn't constant, just that it's not regular like a period. KWIM?

Have you thought about an IUD? There is a hormonal one and a copper one and they are very effective.
