Do you have to drink water for ultrasound?

Do you have to drink water before your 6 week ultrasound? I forgot to ask my doctor, and they didn't tell me to drink any.

I did not have to, but I know that some women on here have posted that they were told to drink water. I would call and ask your doctor.

I was told I didn't have to.

I think it's only for the 20 week ultrasound. My doc. didn't ask me to drink water for the others.

I had to drink water before going to the sonogram.

I didn't have my first sono until almost 9 weeks and when I arrived I had to pee soooo bad. At all my gyno appointments previous to being pregnant they have always had me do a urine sample first thing and I can never pee on demand so I went prepared, ready to pee.

They made me hold it! They wanted to do a regular sono (not internal) and because I was so early along, they wanted my bladder to be full. I got the impression they used the bladder as a point of reference or something. If it was internal, I would have been allowed to pee before it.

I never had to drink water or have a full bladder. my first sono was an internal one & I was 8w4d. I am going for my 20 week sono on thursday & i was not told to have a full bladder. giving a urine sample is usually the first thing I have to do whenever I go.

I've never had too

I think it just depends on the Dr and how sensitive their U/s machine is.

A 6wk sono is most likely going to be internal, so you don't have to worry about your bladder. In fact, I think a full bladder is worse for a transvag sono.

I have never been told to have a full bladder either way.

I just had my ultrasound at 9 weeks and it was internal... they did not tell me to drink before ...I did pee before I went in.

I was told to drink 24 oz for my 8 week sono and then got there and was told to relieve my bladder! I was ******! At 6 weeks its internal so you wont have to. I was told though that i need to for my 12 week sono!
