Where can an IM shot be given?

What are the specific spots on your body where you can administer an IM shot?

I had thought it was your 'upper, outer quandrant' of your buttocks or your thigh (not sure where, but I think right on the front- but don't quote me on it b/c I don't know what I'm talking about ).
I had also seen them mention on the video your upper arms, but no one at LI IVF has ever mentioned that as an option to me (and it's not written in any of their paperwork that I received either).
When I spoke w/ the nurse yesterday she told me that my menopur, HCG, and PIO shots would all be given in the buttocks (ugh) so once we got through last night we'd be pro's. I was under the impression the HCG was given in the thigh, but now that doesn't seem the case for me.

ETA: Of the choices, I'd def. pick the buttocks area (since I've never done the thigh). I iced the area for like 5 mins and felt it go in, but it wasn't like I thought it would be.

After my ER I had the nurse draw bulls eyes on the spots for the IM injections. she also showed my DH how to find the spot without marking the area.

Have your DH open his hand and stick out thumb and index finger. Place hand on your hip with thumb and index around hip, where his thumb lands thats where the shot should be given.

They haven't gone over it w/ me either yet... they told us to watch videos online at the orientation class- but there was no nurse actually going over it. I think someone on here said they don't do the injection teaching anymore, right?

ETA: I had brought a full box of menopur w/ me into Queens yesterday and pulled out the vials that I needed (plus 1 extra of each in case I dropped any or they were defective). Anyway, I looked through all of the paperwork and there were no instructions for IM, only for subq. I was really surprised...

No, I am not up to that point yet, so they have not gone over it with me yet. I am trying to be a few steps ahead.

wow, I am suprised. I even had instructions delivered with my meds. I think there was even a DVD.

My LIIVF nurse drew bullseyes on me which lasted for a long time. That way we knew the exact right spot to aim for!!! I would ask them to do that for you.

I was just going to suggest villagepharmacy, like MrsMessina.

I did my first IVF at LIIVF when they were still doing the training. It all seems easy when someone else is showing you, but when you're on your own with needle-in-hand, all that training goes right out the window.

It's good that you're trying to keep a few steps ahead. It'll definitely help! I do my IM shots in the upper butt-ox (watch the videos on villagepharmacy and you'll ear what I mean!)
Both hips are sore as hell.
