Cloth Diapers?
My SIL has decided to use cloth diapers with her baby. Does anyone else use them? Pros/Cons?
Thanks!

Re: Cloth Diapers?
I did use them with DD for a little while.
Pros: you feel really good about what you're doing, and there are some great choices available; I love Natural Baby Catalog (online only at this point: http://naturalbaby.stores.yahoo.net/ ).
Cons: lots more laundry, (unless you use a service - I chose not to) as well as the preliminary rinsing out of the diapers, etc. I also found they leaked at night sometimes, so I opted for disposable at night time. This is a hard choice for a working mom; I was a SAHM, so I had the time.... most of the time!

Re: Cloth Diapers?
I'm planning on it!! I'll let you know how it goes in October when I get to try them out.
So far I am going to try G-diapers, Kissaluvs fitteds, Bummis covers and a bunch of other random dipes.
The pros are that it can save you money (depending on what you use) and you can reuse them for your next child. You're doing a great thing for the environement and you aren't exposing your child to the harsh chemicals that are in disposables.
The cons are that you end up with more laundry and I assume it can get a little sticky when you have a really messy diaper!! From what I have read, if you find the right system for your child you will have less leaks then regular diapers.
Check out diaperswappers.com. I have found a TON of information on there, plus you can find some great deals on diapers on there on the FSOT.

Re: Cloth Diapers?
My mom used them for all 7 of us, and I thought about it ...for about five seconds; I still have nightmares of poopie diapers soaking in the toilet She used a service, I think 7 kids produced enough laundry without adding the diapers to the pile.
I'm sure the cloth diapers are a little different now, but I could never get the hang of pinning those things tightly - somehow my mom could pin them incredibly well.
