When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
Anymore?
Might be a stupid question, but some people say a year, some say 2.

Well "technically" they say after 1 yr old but if we are going by behavior Casey just passed the puppy stage and she is going to be 4 next month!

Reason I am asking is more of a food, treat, toy question.
She will ALWAYS be my little baby girl though.

Re: When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
Well if thats, the case it's one year old. My "puppy" will be one this week. We just started him on adult food. Their nutritional needs are different now.
He'll always be my puppy though. He definately still acts like one and I don't see him changing anytime soon.

Re: When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
I think I read for the smaller dogs, they are considered adults at 1 year. I forgot what it was for larger dogs.

Re: When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
It depends on the breed. The larger the breed the longer it takes to mature and reach adulthood. Kasey is a black lab, behaviorally speaking she's technically still a puppy until she's 2 but we've been feeding her adult food since she was 6 months.

Re: When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
18 months. A puppy should not be fed adult food at 6 months of age. While it is true reaching adulthood in larger breed dogs can extend to 2 years, at 6 months it is still a puppy and needs the nutrition that it cannot get from adult food.

Re: When is a Puppy, not a Puppy
I used to think 1 year but I think Katie was fully mature (behavior wise) at 1 1/2.
