THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

The doctor called me yesterday and told me that my THS was a little elevated (but not to be concerned). I am going back in on Monday for another blood test.

Does anyone know why it could be elevated? Or at the very least, have any information? This has never been an issue for me, so I am a bit clueless.

TIA

I believe your TSH levels should be 5 and under. If you have elevated TSH it could be harder for you to get PG....I'm pretty sure they give you meds to bring your TSH levels down and it's easier for you to get PG.

Remember that a regular Dr. would only react to a level over 5 whereas your RE is trying to get you pregnant so if your level is close to 5, he/she may want to lower it to better your chances.

Ahhhhhh yes....TSH!

When your TSH is elevated, it means that your thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone. So TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is released to try to get the thyroid to produce more hormone. If it's only slightly elevated, it's probably not a huge deal, but definitely something you want to follow up on.

As PP said, they like to see the number below 5. I was diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism when I was 20. About 6 months ago, I went for a routine check and my TSH was 12.8! Chat Icon But with a quick fix of my medication, it was back down to normal.

For the purposes of TTC, your dr. may have you take a low dose of Synthroid.

Elevated TSH is a quick fix - usually they prescribe synthroid or its generic version and within a few weeks the added benefit is you may start feeling a little peppier, upbeat and energetic. Mine started out as 9, and now I"m down to 2 on 50mg of synthroid.

Re: THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

Thanks so miuch for the info! When I go in on Monday, I'll find out what my level was. Hopefully it's nothing TOO alarming, and we can get it under control quickly.

Re: THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

My TSH was at 4.7 (right after my m/c and by the time I saw an RE) and it was slowly going down on its own. But, I have learned that for TTC they like it to be around 2. Though there is a new wave of endo's that now think it should be around 2 for everyone as well. I take 25mg a day. I wish I felt peppier though. But, I'm now around 2. Been taking it for 1 year exactly. I think it went down in 1 cycle. But, mine wasn't too high, though I suspect it may have been higher at one point.
