Re: For those who did move out of state...
I moved out of state May 2004. From June till October I did once a month traveling back to NY for planning my own wedding and the actual wedding, then a friends wedding that my hubby was in.
I started my job November 2004 and was really into the job and getting things settled with the house.
Winter 2005 I became homesick. I was missing my family and friends. I was watching things on TV and whenever it was something with NY I got even more homesick.
But I do like living out of state. Gives my friends and family a place to stay when they visit FL. I miss everyone but I love our home and our life here.
Dont worry about being a SAHM and not meeting anyone else. Their are SAHM clubs.
Here is a link for the international mom's club. It has links to the sahm mom club in your area. a support group designed just for you, the at-home mother of today! You are interested in the world around you, want a variety of activities for you and your children, and are proud of your choice of at-home mothering for your families! We know, because we're at-home mothers, too!
You need a support group that understands your special needs as an at-home mother and we're it! support group specifically for ALL at-home mothers.

Re: For those who did move out of state...
It can definitely be hard... don't get me wrong, I LOVE my house, and I really do like Philadelphia and all the friends I've made here, but there's just something about NY that I miss... everytime I go visit, I just breathe a huge sigh of relief. ANd it's really, REALLY hard being far away from my closest friend (SUSAN! ) and as well from my parents. It gets especially difficult because my father is sick and lives by himself, so I worry about him all the time. If I were closer, I'd be at his house everyday with Alex, but as it is, I can't

Re: For those who did move out of state...
We just moved two weeks ago to Texas. However, I moved back to my home state. However, DH is from NY and he is definetly missing home.
When I moved to NY from TX, It was harder than I thought. I was sooo home sick. My family, friend, Different cultures, etc etc. But, then I got acclamated after about 1 year. I met new friends and became very close to them.
The funny thing is that I lived in NY for 6 years and I do miss it!!! More so than I thought Iwould.

Re: For those who did move out of state...
Well, there is no place like NY. You can't get food or service like you can in NY anywhere. and the energy - those are the things I miss the most. Of course the taxes, cost of living, traffic, crowds of people, constant buzz, etc. are things that I didn't mind leaving. I've been gone 4 years now and while it WAS hard at first, I can now say I am happily adjusted and don't really miss it much. But my family has since moved near me so that has made a huge difference. I hated leaving them and our friends, but you manage. It was definitely a huge adjustment, culture shock to me moving out of the northeast, but overall our quality of life is so much better than it would have been otherwise. I wouldn't worry about making friends, there's plenty of activities a SAHM can be involved in! Good luck w/your decision!

Re: For those who did move out of state...
I'll admit it was hard at first even though we had DH sister and her family unit already here in GA. Depending on where you move to, neighbors are more than friendly! You can always hit up the library for reading time, there is something called the MOM's club-it's a group of stay at home moms that meet and fundraise and stuff (SIL was running a branch here).
I was sad for awhile but also happy at our new life. We have met some great people and we are not very social people. We have a few nice new friends that we go out to eat with or go to the movies and DH just got in touch with someone he went to HS with that also lives down here....and they are the same as we are...homebodies.
and you know I'm here for ya if it works out that way!
