Names
My dh and I are not sharing our names with anyone.. we have a friend who is expecting four months after us and mentioned naming their baby the same name that we were planning. What to do?
Say something, keep the name, or find a new name?
Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Names
I would say something to her since you are giving birth first. What a horrible dilemma!

Re: Names
oooo, that is a hard question to answer. I would maybe talk to her and see if they are still planning on using that name, and explain everything.
I have a friend giving birth before me, and we are both not telling names. So we had to make sure we weren't using the same name. I don't know what I would have done if she was using our name.

Re: Names
Ohhh that is a hard one. Is it a more common name or different? Are they really settled on it? And how good of friends are you?

We are good friends and the name isn't that common - I'm not sure how settled they are on it yet though.

Re: Names
I agree that you should discuss it with her. But before you do, maybe you should decide for yourself whether you would be willing to change the name you picked, and whether you would mind the babies having the same name. So you could say something like. "DH and I made the decision not to share our baby's name, but I thought I should let you know that the name we picked is the one you are considering. I honestly don't mind if you choose the same name, but I wanted to let you know so that it doesn't come as a surprise to you."
I have always been of the mindset that I will name my baby my favorite name, and if one of my friends happens to choose the same name, so be it. However, 2 of my friends are basically no longer friends because of a baby's name. 1 friend has said for years she wanted to name her daughter Madeline (and call her Maddy) after her brother who passed away a few years ago. Another friend then had a baby and named her baby Madeline (also calls her Maddy) out of nowhere, and didn't tell the other friend until after baby was born and named. They basically are no longer friends.

I agree. I wouldnt' care if a friend used the same name. Why shouldn't you be able to use it if you like it to. What if you aren't friends with this person 5 yrs down the line. You might regret it.

Re: Names
this actually happened to a friend of mine..she didnt tell anyone until after her DD was born though....a mutual friend of ours had her DD in June this friend was due in October and has had this name picked for years. The friend that had the baby in June name her DD Kylie so the other friend that was due in Oct. still really liked the name but didnt use it because they see one another all the time but picked one similar Kaylee.
You may want to let her know its one of your names if you are comfortable revealing it too her...but its completely up to you.

I agree with this. Let her know so it doesn't cause any bad blood. My sister and SIL don't speak because my SIL mentioned that she might like to use the name my sister had picked out. Of course, brother and BIL became involved and it is a big old mess--still! One baby is now 6 months, the other 8 months.
