I just read a birthing story from a lady in ct on parents.com and she said that her dr let her hubby deliver her babies...can this happen?? Would a dr allow it??? Thanks!

Wow! Can you link the article? I live in CT and would love to see where it took place.
I'm sure anything is possible depending on the doc but my DH certainly is too much of a to handle that!

My sister and BIL live in NJ. He caught their 2nd son and is hoping to do the same this time around.
Not sure about the laws in NY though.

Re: Can hubby aid in the actual birth??
Mine can!!!! BUUUTTTT that is because he is a certified NYS EMT. My Doctor asked him if he wanted to deliver the baby with her guidence and he was about to, but then I just decided to say screw them all and push him out and my Dr had to catch him
ETA: My DH also works for the FDNY and I delivered in the city.

There's no laws in NY for or against its at the md or midwife's discretion. I midwife probably be more likely to allow it

Mine can too! He delievered 1 baby on the job and that was enough for him. Wasn't the greatest cleanest of situations you can say. Anyway the only aid I want is him cutting the cord, but he didn't with ds because I had a C so I doubt he will with this one either.

Re: Can hubby aid in the actual birth??
I'm using a midwife in a birthing center. As long as the delivery is progressing nicely my Dh should be allowed to assist in delivery, basically the midwife guiding his hands. I am not in NY.

My DH was very hands on with the delivery of our DS. The doctor was right there but DH did quite a bit...

Re: Can hubby aid in the actual birth??
Mine can aid me by holding me still for the epidural. Other than that, I'd prefer him sticking to a job he knows best - making Excel charts and analyzing data.

Re: Can hubby aid in the actual birth??
I can't imagine mine being able to do that! He is a also. The first time the eye doctor tried to put contacts in his eyes they had to call me in...he was as pale as a ghost and sweating. They thought he would black out!!! He thinks he will be able to cut the cord. He won't even be able to help me during the epi. Winthrop said they send the Dads out for that as they have "lost" too many during it! It's probably for the best in DH's case.

Re: Can hubby aid in the actual birth??
My DH assisted sooo much during my labor. He would have caught the baby if I didn't end up with a c-section. I used a midwife, not sure if that makes a difference.
